SINK-SHELF.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 5, 1914.
Application filed September 25, 1912. Serial No. 722,327.
To all whom it may cone-em:
Be it known that I, ALICE P. GURTIss, a citizen of the United States, residing at Batavia, in the county of Genesee, State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sink-Shelves; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, andexact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to sink shelves of the type adapted to support soap and other material in a convenient position with respect to the sink.
The object of the invention resides in the provision of a sink shelf which is adapted to be detachably supported by the sink and which will be simple in construction, efficient in use and which may be manufactured at a very low cost.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the details of conthe bottom thereof, and Fig. 4 a view of the blank from which the shelf is constructed.
Referring to the drawings, A indicates a sink provided with the usual rolled upper edge 10.
The shelf is shown as constructed from a single metal blank indicated generally at B. This blank is of arcuate form and has the ends thereof located in line disposed at right angles to each other. The ends of the blanks in forming the shelf are bent outwardly and inwardly to produce curved portions 11 and 12 adapted to be engaged over the rolled upper edges of adjacent sides of a sink. The blank is further provided with a plurality of perforations 13 which serves as a means for draining material supported upon the shelf.
In applying the shelf to the sink A the curved portions 11 and 12 of the shelf are disposed downwardly and the shelf is then positioned in substantially the same plane.
as the upper edge of the sink and moved inwardly of the latter to the position shown in Fig. 1 when the curved portions 11 and 12 of the shelf will engage over the rolled upper edges 10 of adjacent sides of the sink and secure the shelf to the latter. It will be noted that the curved or rolled portions 11 and 12 form corresponding split cylinders having their longitudinal edges disposed respectively beyond their diameters, while the intermediate portion of the shelf is disposed between the common parallel tangents of the cylinders.
What I claim is: A sink shelf constructed from an arcuate metal blank having its straight edges disposed at right angles to each other and rolled to form longitudinally split cylinders with the intermediate portion of the shelf disposed in a plane substantially tangential to both cylinders and the free longitudinal edges of said cylinders being disposed at a less distance from the fixed edge than the length of the diameter of the sink bead whereby the movement of the shelf along the bisector of a corner of the sink will spring the free longitudinal edges of the cylinders over the sink bead and secure the shelf to the sink.
In testimony whereof, I affix my signa ture, in presence of two Witnesses.
ALICE P. CURTISS. Witnesses:
FRANK J. PENFIELD, HENRY D. BOSTWIOK.
