Be it known that I, MARY R. VAN DUsnN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Charlevoix, in the county ofCharlevoiX and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Folding Chairs, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

This invention relates tonew and useful improvements in articles of furniture and more particularly to folding furniture, the main object of the invention being to provide a folding chairwherein the back, arms and rockers may be folded upon the side of. the chair so as to occupy minimum space when storing or moving the same and the chair is so constructed that should any of the-parts thereof become broken, they can be quickly and readily removed and replaced by a new part. 1

Another object of the invention is the provision of a folding chair of the above character which will possess advantages in points of efficiency and durability, is inexpensive to manufacture and at the same time is simple in construction and operation.

Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 indicates the bottom of the chair which may be formed of any suitable shape and is provided at its rear edge with an upwardly projecting flange 2, to which the back 3 of the chair is hingedly connected, as shown at 4.. The back 3 may be of any desired form and size and provided with any form of ornamentation desired other than that shown in the drawing. said rockers being adapted to fold inwardly and rest flatly against the under face of the bottom 1, as illustrated in Fig. 5.

The rockers 7 when disposed in their operative position are securely held against inwardly folding movement by means of the inwardly extending arms 9 which are formed integral with the longitudinal brace members 10 and extend inwardly out of alinement so that the inner ends thereof will be arranged in parallel relation and securely held against movement by thehook members 11 which are alternately arranged upon the inner ends of the arms and are adapted to engage with the alternate eyes 12 so as to securely hold the arms 9 against any longi tudinal movement. When the side arms 5 are arranged in their upright position they are securely held in such position by means of the screw bolts 13 which are passed through the side edges of the back 3 and are engaged within the rear ends of the side arms, as shown at 14, and more clearly illustrated in Fig. 6, to securely hold the side arms in their upright positions.

From the above description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it will be readily apparent that I have provided a simple and durable folding chair which consists of comparatively few parts so assembled that they may be quickly and readily set up in position for use or readily folded together to occupy minimum space when shipping, moving or storing the same.

While I have shown and described the preferred form of my invention, it will be obvious that various changes in the details of construction and in the proportions may be resorted to for successfully carryin my invention into practice without sacrir'cing any of the novel features or departing from the scope of the appended claims.
