To all whom it may concern:

Beit known that I, THOMAS Down, a

citizen of the United States, residing at Duluth, in. the county of St. Louis and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Inter changeable Heels for Shoes, ofwh'ich the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing. The actual wear upon a heel of a shoe is invariably upon one side or the other and when it is possible to interchange the heels from time to time, it will be seen that the heel will wear evenly and the life thereof.

are formed of spring metal of a cylindrical shape having the base 8 integral therewith and which is considerably larger n diameter than the socket and formmg an annular flange 9 thereabout. This flange 9 is placed between the layers 8 and 8' of the detachable heel and acts as a securing means for the; socket, while the socket 5 proper lies within the openings 9' in the upper layer 8 of the detachable heel and has its upper end flush therewith so that the detachable heel will rest against the lower face of the low heel portion 3 carried.

While I have shown and described the invention as applied to a leather heel, it will be understood that thesame would operate with equally good results if used with the rubber heels and affords a simple, practical and cheap means for providing an interchangeable heel. This structure is also of such a nature that the heel is held upon the shoe against ordinary strain to which it is subjected and yet can be readily removed when desired.
