- My invention has for its object to furnish an improvement in constructing tables, stands, 86e., which will rendera frame unnecessary, and which shall be simple in construction', and convenient and effective in use, and inexpensive in m anufacture; and it consists in the construction and combination of various parts of the table, as hereinafter more fully described.

UNITED STATEs DANIEL K. BARNHART, OF GAINES, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN TABLES, STANDS, 84C.V
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 116,797, dated July 11, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, DANIEL K. BARNIIART, of Gaines, in the county of Tioga and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Tables; and I do hereby declare that the following Ais a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is an under-side view of a table to which my improvement has been attached, the legs being cut off. Fig. 2 is a detail sectional view of the same taken through the line a' a, Fig. 1.
Similar letters ofreference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention has for its object to furnish an improvement in constructing tables, stands, 86e., which will rendera frame unnecessary, and which shall be simple in construction', and convenient and effective in use, and inexpensive in m anufacture; and it consists in the construction and combination of various parts of the table, as hereinafter more fully described.
A are metal sockets to receive the tenons of the legs B, which may be secured in said sockets by screws passing in through the' side of the said sockets and screwing against or into the ten on of the said legs. Upon the upper ends of the sockets A are formed two or more arms, a', having holes formed through their ends to receive the screws by which the sockets are secured to the top or leaves C of the table, the said arms thus giving to the sockets a broad base. The under side of the top or leaves of the table near the edge or edges has a groove, c', formed in it to receive the edge of the rim D, which rim may be made light and thin. The rim D at its ends or in other parts, if desired, may be strengthened by knees or brackets d. In l the case of square tables the side arms a of the sockets A may be extended so as to form bars, which should be provided with holes to receive the screws for securing the top or leaves in place.
This improvement is designed to be attached to round tables, fsquare tables, center tables, extension tables7 stands, Ste., and enables rin and substantial tables to be made without any frame.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. The metallic sockets A, made with two or more projecting arms, af', at their upper ends, in combination with the top and legs of a table, substantially as herein shown and described.
2. A table, with the groove c formed upon the underside of the top C near its edge, in combination with the rim D, substantially as herein shown and described.
