This invention relates to improvements' in the construction of roller skates.
In carrying out my invention it is my` purpose to produce a roller skate which shall be of an extremely simple, cheapl and durable construction and which may be easily and quickly applied and firmly held in position when applied.
Another object of the invention is to produce a roller skate wherein the wheels may revolve in a practically noiseless manner and also whereby the skate may be provided with anydesired number of wheels. v With the above and other objects in view the improvement resides in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts set forth in the following specification and fallf ing within the scope of the appended claim-s.

at the heel and -toe portions thereof is'provided with downwardly extending bracket members 11 and 12 respectively which are arranged in spaced pairs and each of which is provided with an opening 13, and the' outer face of each of the brackets, -is formed with an annular flange 14 that surrounds the opening 13, and each of the said flanges is formed with an inner central continuous groove 14. The flanges 14 are each provided wilthan orifice 15 which communicates with the groove 14 in the said flange and which is normally closed by a removable plug-16. l/Vithin this rim is arranged a compressibletread 24, and the said tread may be retained in the channel of the rim through they medium of binding elements 25 which pass through the said rim and contact with the said tread. As shown in the drawings the annular tread 24 may have its inner face provided with a continuous rib 26 and the rim 23 may be centrally rovided with a `continuous channel 27 to receive the said rim.
In Fig. 3 of-the drawings the constructionjissubstantially similar to that just described but the shanks 29 of the axle members are smooth or non-threaded. The hub for the axles 29 has its bore smooth, the said hub being provided with binding elements,l

In Fig. 4 of the drawings the axle 33 is in the nature of a rod which has its opposite ends centrally lprovided with threaded orifices to receive the shanks of threaded bolts 34, which also pass through caps 35 and force the fsaid caps against the outer sides of the bracket members 11 and 12. The hub for the axles is secured by the binding elements similar to the binding elements 31 whereby the wheels may be effectively connectedV with the axles.
Having thus-described the invention, what I claim is:
1. A roller skate" including a' foot plate, said plate having depending brackets at the toe and heel portion thereof, efach of said brackets having an opening and a groove surrounding the opening, axles for the hubs, each axle comprising two similar members each including a heads having peripheral channels,the shank of each of the axles adapted to be passed through the `opening in one of the brackets and to have its head received in the groove of the bracket, anti-rictional balls in the channels in the heads of the axles and contacting with the side walls of the grooves, and means, between the hubs of the wheels and the axles for sustaining the said axles in said hubs.
