To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I,- JUANITA TRAMANA, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York, in the county ofl New York and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Ladies Head-Gear, of which the following is a specification.

My present invention relates generally to ladies headgear, and more particularly to improvements in connection with ladies hats whereby to adapt the same to interchange for use in a variety of forms, my object in particular being the provision of a ladys hat, the parts of which are susceptible of ready and quick detachment, so that. the hat may be dismantled and its parts packed in small bulk within' space of limited capacity without endangering, crushing, or breaking thereof.

With these general objects in mind and certain others, residing more particularly in the details of the parts to be hereinafter described, my invention isv shown in the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification, and wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view of a complete hat, constructed in accordance with my invention, and in the form of a turban;

Figs. 2, 3, 4, and V5 are similar views illustrating the certain interchangeable forms to be hereinafter specifically referred to;

Figs. 6 and 7 are detail sectional views. taken respectively on lines 6-6 and 7-7 of Fig. 2; l

Fig. 8 is a detail perspective view of the hat frame with all coverings removed;

Referring now to these figures, and particularly to Figs. 8 to 12 inclusive, my invention essentially consists, in the first instance, of a hat frame including a crown band 15 and central crossing crown strips 16 and 17, the former extending from front to rear and the latter extending from side to side.

The band 15 is formed of a sin le piece of suitable material, having lapping ends 18 provided at their opposing faces with detachable fastening members including studs 19 and sockets 20, the studs 19 being arranged in longitudinal series, as seen best in The ends of the crown strips 16 and 17 l are detachably joined to the inner face of the crown band 15 by relatively engaging studs and sockets, as seen at 21, these strips being detachably joined at their centers where they cross one another by means of studs and sockets 22, and the lengthwise strip 16 having several sockets 21 adjacent its ends so as to provide for its detachable connection with the forward and rear portions of the band 15, to thus hold the latter either in the oval shape, as seen in Fig. 9, or the circular shape, as seen in Fig. 10.-

Thus, with the crown frame, as seen in Figs. 8 to 12 inclusive, without covering, it is at once apparent that the crown strips 16 and 17 may be readily and quickly detached from the band 15 and from one another, and the lapping ends 1S of the band detached so that the latter and the strips 16 and 17 may be straightened out and packed iatwise, rolled, or any other suitable manner within small space and within a suitcase, traveling bag, or the like, without danger of bending, breaking, or otherwise destroying the same. The band 15 is also provided around its inner and outer faces with studs 23 and 24 respecthely. judiciously disposed in spaced relation for the reception of the hat coverings. such as a fiexible covering 25, as seen in Figs. 1` 2. and 6. having inner sockets 26 around its lower edge to engage the outer studs 24 of the band 15, so as to thus cover the frame previously described, and form a complete hat of the nature of a. turban, either with or without ornaments, such as an a-igrette 27 or the like. as seen in Figs. 2 and 6, having a socket 28 attached thereto for detachable engagement with the stud 29 of the hat covering, as seen in Figs. 1 and 6. The hat so formed by the crown frame with its covering 25 may be changed into a picture hat by the provision of a brim portion 30, as seen in Figs. 2 and 6, having sockets 31 around its upper inner edge for engagement with the inner series of studs 23 of the band 15, and preferably composed of stifened sections 30a and 30", as seen in Figs. 2 and 7, having radially stiffened ribs 32 in spaced parallel relation, connected by the covering material 33, as seen in Fig. 7, so as to form flexible portions 34 between the strips 32 of each pair whereby the brim portion 30 may be folded into small compass upon detachment from the band l5 for packing purposes.

As seen in Figs. 3 and 4, the covering'for the frame may be in the form of an automobile overdrape 35, detachably connected by means of sockets thereon for engagement with the outer studs 24 of the band and having a forward button 36 and rearwardly dependin T portions 37, the latter of which may be drawn forwardly around the ears in their freely extended position when automobiling, and readily drawn around the crown of the hat in opposite directions, as shown in Fig. 3 and their end loops 3S engaged with the forward button 36 before mentioned, to form a turban for use either with or without the ornaments 27, as previously described in connection with Figs. 2 and 6.

The frame, with suitable covering, is also capable of change to the form of a widows bonnet, as shown in Fig. 5, the veil 39 of which is draped over the suitably covered frame with the forward upright visor. or facing strip 40 detachably connected by intermediate and end sockets 41 to the outer studs 2l at the front and sides of the band 15, so as to effectively hold the veil 39 in its draped position.

It is obvious from the foregoing that my invention provides for the ready interchange of frame coverings and ornaments, adapting the crown frame, as illustrated in Figs. 8 to 12 inclusive, for use as a bathing cap,

within spaces of small area without danger y of crushing, breaking, or otherwise injuring such parts.

I claim l. Ladies headgear consisting of a covered frame includinga surrounding band, and a brim portion, the said band and the inner portion of the brim having relatively engaging fastening members to detachably hold the brim in position, and said brim including relatively stii" flexibly connected sections, whereby it may be folded and disconnected from the band.

2. In ladies headgear, a crown frame consisting of a. surrounding band, crossing crown strips, and means for detachably connecting the ends Vof said strips with said band, the ends of one of the said strips and the band having relatively engaging fastening members supporting the strip in lengthwise adjustable relation to the band.

3. In ladies headgear, a crown frame consisting of a surrounding band having lapping ends adjustably and detachably connected to one another, and crossing crown ,strips having detachable connection with one another and with the said band.
