UNITED STATES "PATENT oFFlcE.
GAME APPARATUS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 8, 1920.
Application fi1ed. August 8, 1919. Serial No. 316,011.
[0 all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE W. Ammu- SON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Benona township, in the county of Oceana and State of Michigan, have invented new and useful Improvements in Game Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to game apparatus; and its object is to provide novel apparatus Wherewith a game may be played.
This object is attained by, and the invention finds preferably embodiment in, the game apparatus hereinafter described and illustrated by the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a top plan View of a game board, with some of the playing pieces in place thereon;
Fig. 2 is a vertical section (enlarged) of a portion of the same taken on a plane corresponding to line 2-2 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a top plan view (much enlarged) of one of the upwardly extending members of the game board;
Fig. 4c is a like view of a modified form thereof; and
Fig. 5 is a View of one of the playing pieces.
In the embodiment of the invention chosen for illustration by the drawings and for detailed description in the body of this specification, the game board 1, preferably provided with an upwardly extending peripheral rim 2, displays a plurality (25 in the form illustrated) of spaced markings. Means are provided for outlining triangles having adjacent threes of such markings at their angles. Preferably these markings and such means are, as illustrated, the following:
The spaced markings in the construction shown are the short posts or upwardly extending members 3, disposed in rows and cross rows rectangularly arranged. Each said member is provided with Sockets 4 angularly spaced and extending radially toward the adjacent members. In order that the sockets may extend toward all the adjacent members, eight of such sockets in each member are provided.
In Figs. 1, 2 and 3, these members have upward extensions 5 of less diameter than the body portion of the members; while in the modified form shown in Fig. 4, such upward extension of the member 3 is omitted, the sockets 1 extending uninterruptedly across the top face of the members. The means for outlining triangles is preferably the playing pieces 6, being elongated bars or rods, which are adapted to be seated at their ends in the sockets of the adjacent members, as seen in Fig. 1 and particularly in Fig. 2.
The game, which I have called The WVorlds League of Nations, is played with this apparatus as follows: The board represents the world and the tri.ngles outlined thereon as hereinafter explained represent the nations. The first player places a playing piece in the sockets of any adjacent pair of members, thus laying it in a direction parallel to the side of the board or diago nally thereto, as he may desire. The second player then places another playing piece in the sockets of any adjacent member. The players proceed turn about in this way, each players object being to place in the socket the third playing piece which completes the outlining of a triangle, such as is shown at 7 in Fig. 1. The player who thus completes a triangle, adds a new nation to the league. If the playing piece placed by a player completes a triangle and also forms the second side of another triangle, he may continue to place pieces as long as they complete triangles, whereupon he must place another piece. The player who completes the most triangles wins the game.
It will be seen that a greater or less number of spaced markings or members 3 may be displayed on the game board and that two or more persons may play in the same game: and also that the game may be played by providing the board with spaced markings in any form and by providing any means for connecting the same to form trianglesall of which is within the purview of my invention.
The invention being intended to be pointed out in the claim, is not to be limited to or by details of construction of the particular embodiment thereof hereinbefore described or shown by the drawings.
I claim:
Ina game apparatus; a game board hav- 5 ing a plurality of upwardly extending members, each having eight angularly spaced sockets extending radially toward the adjacent members; elongated playing pieces adapted to be seated in the sockets of adjacent members. 10 In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand at Grand Rapids, Michigan, this fourth day of August,' 1919.
GEORGE W. ANDERSON.
