To all whom it may concern:
Be Y it known that'GEoRer: F'ARGHER HIoH'r, citizenofthe Dominion of New'Zealand, re siding at Hukeren'ui, North Auckland. in the Provincial District of Auckland, New Zealand, has invented 'a certa'in ne'w and useful Improved Door Stop, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to stops for holding doors in any desired open position, and rovides a more convenient stop or holder t an the devices at present in use.
According to the invention the stop or holder comprises a vertical rod capable of movement vertically through a bracket secured to the door and in a casing also secured to the door. The rod has projecting from its lower end a pad of rubber or the like which is normally pressed downwards on to the floor by a spring housed in the casing exerting pressure against a shoulder on the rod.
The bracket through which the rod passes has a portion formed with a sloped or curved surface, above which and on the rod is a boss formed with a sloped or curved surface adapted to bear on the sloped or curved surface of the bracket, said boss also having projecting therefrom a handle by means of which it can be turned. The boss is placed on the rod below a stop thereon while the bracket has a flat portion at the top of its sloped 01' curved surface.
The device and its operation will be further described with reference to the accompanying drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a part elevation broken of a door with the improved stop fitted thereon, and showing the device operated to hold the door from swinging.
Figure 2 is a similar view but showing the rod raised so as to leave the door free to swing, while Figures 3 and 4 are detail views or me bracket and the boss on the rod, the boss being turned so as to retain the rod in the raised position.
The rod 1 passes vertically through the bracket 2, which is secured to the door 3 at a convenient height from the floor 4, prefera'loly just below the handle 5. The portion 2 of the bracket 2- through which the rod 1 passes has an upper cam surface 6 sloped or curved as shown at the top of which is a flat 7 (Figure 4).

On the rod 1 above the bracket 2 is aloose boss 12 provided with'a handle 13, and a lower cam surface 14 formed'to ride on the upper cam surface 6 of the portion 2 of the bracket 2.
A stop 16 is secured on the rod l above the l boss 12.

The device can be fixed to either side er a door, or, it may be let into same, with the e handle 13 projecting through a slot.

In a door stop a bracket provided With a cam surface, a rod slidably mounted in said bracket spring means normally tending to project said rod to operative position, a boss loosely confined on'said rod, a stop carried by the rod preventing longitudinal. displacement of the boss, a cam surface on said eaaaes latter maybe held in adjusted position, and
a handle on said boss.
