Description

June 121923 145K419 J. M. SNYDER COMBINED BENCH AND MUSIC CABINET Filedjune 27, 1921 l6 /5 H /9 )7 m l6 r a Qwuemfoz I John M-sny r y I I attorney Patented June 12, 1923.
UNITED STATES JOHN SNYDER, or YORK, PENNSYLVANIA} COMBINED BENCH AND Music CABINET.
Application filed June 27, 1921 Serial No. 480,759. 7
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN M. SNYDER, a citizen of the United States, residing at York, in the county of York and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Benches and Music Cabinets, of which the following is a specification.
My said invention relates to a combined bench and music cabinet for use with a piano, organ or like musical instrument and it is an object thereof to provide a convenient receptacle for sheet music or music rolls.
Referring to the accompanying drawings which are made a part hereof and on which similar reference characters indicate similar parts,
Figure 1 is a perspective of my device,
Figure 2 a vertical longitudinal section, and
Figure 3 a partial horizontal section of a modified form.
In the drawings reference character 10 indicates the top or seat of the bench which may be of conventional form and which is provided with sides consisting of parts 11 and 12 and end pieces 13, the parts 12 and 13 forming supports for the bench.
A drawer 14 is supported in any conven-' ient manner by the sides and top and forms a receptacle for sheet music. In Figure 2 I have indicated at 15 a pair of brackets attached to the top and engaging grooves in the sides of the drawer.
At opposite ends of the device there are supported a pair of receptacles for sheet music. Each receptacle is pivoted near the bottom of an aperture in the end member 13, on hinges 16 and is freely swingable into an outer position as in Figure 1, or an inner position, as in Figure 2, being limited by stops 17 which engage with the adjacent parts of member 13, the latter being cut away to provide an opening for the receptacle which opening is preferably but not necessarily rectangular and is closed by the receptacle in its inner position. The receptacles are provided with handles 18 by which they may be conveniently opened by a person seated on the bench who may then withdraw sheets of music from the several compartments of the receptacles or replace them therein. The compartments referred to are formed as indicated by'partitions 19 of which any desirable number may be provided.
The inward movement of the receptacles is limited by stops 20 which engage with their lower inner corners. Upright members 21 are also shown in Figure 2 wh1ch act as closures to prevent access of dust to the receptacles and which may be relied on to limit the inward movement of the same. Preferably both the closures 21 and the stops 20 are provided, but either one may be omitted if desired. At their upper ends the re ceptacles are rounded as shown to secure ease of movement, and to present a good appearance in their outer position.
The partitions 19 may be madeof cardboard loosely held in place as by grooves at the sides of the receptacle and may carry 1 letters or figures so that they can be arranged in alphabetical or numerical order;
of spaces 22 adapted for holding music rolls. K
One or both receptacles may be formed as in Figure 3 for music rolls and drawer 14 may be omitted if desired. A desirable arrangement consists of two end receptacles arranged to hold rolls for use in an automatic player, and a drawer 14 to hold sheet music. Various other changes may obviously be made within the scopeof my invention as defined by the appended claims.
I-Lving thus fully described my said in- I vention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
i 1. A music bench comprising a top adapted to be used as a seat, end supporting members with walls at the sidesa nd back only, receptacles adapted to receive music, pivoted along their lower front edge and adapted to form bottom and front walls for the a supporting members, the rear walls of the receptacles being adapted to rest against the c said back walls of the supporting members, substantially as set forth.
2. A music bench comprising a top adapted to be used as a seat, supporting members spaced apart with a free open space between them and located under the respective Li lower front edges and adapted to fit Within ends of said seat, said end supporting members having Walls at. the sides and backan'd normal open fronts, receptacles mounted in said open fronts and pivoted along their In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal at York, Pennsylvania, 10 this 20th day of June, A. D. nineteen hundred and twenty-one.
JOHN SNYDER. LS
v and close said open fronts resting against the Witnesses back Walls of the supporting members, sub- HARBr'E. SNYDER, stantially as set forth. PLKELLER.
