C.H.STRUPE ADJUSTABLE STAND Filed Jan. 1923 INVENTOR 639011 11. Jim n0,

UNITED. stares PATENT FFIQE.
CECIL I-I. STRUPE, F INDIANAPOLIS. INDIANA, ASSIG NOR TO LEEDY MANUFACTUR- ING COMPANY, OF INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA, A CORPORATIGN OF INDIANA.
ADJUSTABLE STAND.
Application filed January 22, 1923.
To (ZZZ who-m it may concern:
Be it known that I, CECIL H. S'rnorn, a. citizen of the United States, residing at Indianapolis, in the county of Marion and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Adjustable Stand, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements 1n stands for tympani and the like.
One of the objects of my invention is to provide a stand for instruments of this character which may be readily folded to permit easy transportation and which may also be easily adjusted to vary the heightof the instrument supported thereby.
For the purpose of disclosing my invention I have illustrated one embodiment thereof in the accompanying drawings m which,
Fig. 1 is an elevation of a stand embodying my invention, shown as supporting a tympano.
Fin. 2 is a plan view of the stand;
Fig. 3 is an elevation of the stand showing the same in folded position;
Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken on the line l4l of Fig. 3; and
Fig. 5 is a side elevation of the mounting block.
In the embodiment illustrated I provide a triangular block 1 hollow on its under side to provide the three vertical walls 2, 3 and 4: and a top 5. To each of the vertical or side walls is pivotally attached, by means of a stud 6, a leg 7 which is preferably attached at a point intermediate of its ends. By this arrangement a tripod support is provided for the tympano 8 and at its upper end each of the legs, which is preferably formed of a single bar of metal. is twisted so that a flat side will be presented to the side of the tympano and has secured thereon a rubber or other soft button 9.
Adjustablv secured on the block 1 is a triangular plate or stop member 10 which is adjustably secured in position on the block by means of a bolt 11 extending through the top 5 of the block and through the plate, a suitable wine nut 12 serving to hold the plate on the block in its adjusted position.
"On each of the sides of the triangular plate there is provided a downwardly extending lug or stop or ear 13 one edge of which s parallel with the vertical edge of the sides of the block and the other edge is inclined as Serial No. 614,186.
at 14. These cars overlap the block and each ear at its lower end forms a stop which engages the edge of one of the legs to limit the movement of the leg toward the horizontal. It will be noted that each lug is approximately only one half the length of each side so that the legs may be moved to the vertical without interference.
It is obvious that by operating the screw 12 the cars 13 may be forced downwardly relatively to the legs thereby moving the legs more nearly toward the vertical and thus raising the tympano which is supported thereon.
I claim as my invention:
1. In a stand the combination with a pivot block having a plurality of substantially vertical sides and a plurality of legs pivotally secured to said sides, of a plurality of stops on said block for limiting the movement of said legs on said pivots toward a horizontal position, said stops being vertically adjustable on said block to vary the angular position of the legs.
2. In a stand the combination with a block having a plurality of substantially vertical sides and supporting legs pivotally.
secured to said sides, of a stop member mounted on said block having stops for limiting the movement of said legs toward the horizontal while permitting a free movement of the legs toward the vertical, said stops being vertically adjustable to vary the angular position of said legs.
3. In a stand the combination with a block having a plurality of substantially vertical sides and a plurality of supporting legs pivoted intermediate of their ends to said sides, of a plurality of connected stops mounted on said block for limiting the pivotal movement of said legs toward the horizontal, said stops being vertically adjustable on said block to vary the angular position of the legs.
4. In a stand the combination with a block having a plurality of substantially vertical faces and supporting legs pivoted intermediate of their ends to said faces, of a stop plate mounted on said block and provided with stops, one for each of the legs, and limiting the movement of the legs toward the horizontal, said stop plate being vertically adjustable on said block to vary the angular position of said legs.
5. In a stand the combination with a block Ill) having a plurality of substantially vertical faces and supporting legs pivotally mounted intermediate of their ends on said faces, of a stop member mounted on said block and having a plurality of stop lugs, one for each of said legs arranged to limit the movement of said legs on their pivot toward the horizontal While permitting an unobstructed movement toward the vertical, said stop member being vertically adjustable on the block to vary the angular position of said legs.
7 6. In a stand the combination With a triangular block having substantially vertical faces and 'a supporting leg pivoted intermediate of its ends to each of said faces, of
a substantially triangular limit plate mounted upon said block having down turned stops extending parallel with the faces of said block and arranged to engage and limit the movement ofjsaid legs on their pivots toward he horizontal, a bolt extending through the top of said block and through said plate and a nut secured on said bolt for holding said plate in adjusted positions.
In Witness whereof, I, CECIL H. STRUPE, have hereunto set my hand at Indianapolis, Indiana, this 10th day of January, A. D. one thousand nine hundred and twenty-three.
CECIL H. STRUPE.
