This invention relates to a bracket and shelf, and has for an object the provision of a simple, efficient bracket and shelf construction which can be made very economically out of sheet metal and assembled very easily and quickly to form a very strong, rigid shelf and supporting bracket.

Another object concerns the provision of a bracket and shelf construction whereby a minimum number of parts are used, of economical construction, and capable of assembly by any one not particularly skilled.

A further object concerns the provision of a bracket and shelf which is adapted for use in any form and to any location without materially altering the construction or departing from the spirit of the invention.

The invention is illustrated in the drawings, of which- Figure 1 shows the perspective view of one form of shelf and bracket;

Fig. 2 is an edge elevation thereof;

The forms of the invention shown in the drawings are preferred forms, although it is understood that modifications in the construction and arrangement of the parts and in the character of the materials used may be adopted without departing from the spirit of the invention as set forth in the appended claim.

The invention in its general aspect comprises the provision of a stamped sheet of metal to form the bracket plate, and a. stamped sheet of metal to form a shelf, which can be very simply and easily connected by any one.

More specifically the invention concerns the provision of a construction whereby the shelf and bracket plates can be shipped and sold fiat and unassembled and then can be very readily assembled when it is desired to use them.

still more specifically, the invention comprises a bracket plate which can be attached to a wall or any suitable support and is provided with simple means whereby is can be readily connected to a shelf, the bracket plate being provided with an extension in the form of an arm integral with itself which is bent up to support the shelf at a suitable distance from the wall.

As shown on the drawing, the bracket plate comprises a plate 1 having a lower extending limb portion .2 and laterally extending arm portions 8 and 4. The arm portions are provided with slots 5 and 6, and the lower end of the limb portion is provided with an aperture 7 The main body portion is provided with a lip 8 struck out of the metal itself. This lip is adapted to be bent at right angles to the plate portion, as will be described. The limb portion 2, near its lower end, is adapted to be bent around and extend upwardly in an angle to the main portion of the plate, as shown in Figs. 1 and 3. Preferably, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4, the sides of this portion of the limb 2 are bent up to form this limb portion and as a sort of channel member for the purpose of making it stronger. The outer end of the limb portion 2 is bent flat, as shown in the figures, and the aperture 7 is adapted to receive a screw or pin 9 which extends through a hole in the plate 10 which forms the shelf. This plate, as shown in Fig. 6, is provided with rearwardiy extending ears 1]. and 12 and flange portions 13 and 14 provided with apertures 15 and 16. The plate is also provided with lateral flanges 17, 18 and 19 as well as with an aperture 20.

As shown in Figs. 3 and t particularly, the lip 8 can be bent at right angles to be disposed under the rear edge of the shelf plate 10. The ears 11 and 12 extend through the slots 5 and 6 and are bent upwardly, as shown in Fig. 2, to engage the shelf with that portion of the bracket plate which lies along a wall 21. The flanges 13 and 14 are bent downwardly to lie along the wall and brace the shelf and the bracket plate thereon. They can, if desired, be connected rigidly to the wall by means of screws extending through the holes 15 and 16.
