PATENT OFFICE.*
PHILIP M. HOFFMANN, F BATESVILLE, INDIANA.
BOARD FOR CARD PLAYING.
Application filed. April 16, 1927. Serial No. 184,408.
My invention relates to a card-playing board designed particularly for use in playing the game of rum but adapted for use in playing other games, as well, the object being to provide a board for such purpose that will enable the cards to be handled more conveniently and at thesame time safeguard the game and the players against errors, inadvertent or intentional, all as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed. 4
Referring to the accompanying drawings which are made a part hereof and on which similar reference characters indicate similar parts,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a board constructed in accordance with my said in vention, and
Figure 2, a central sectional View of the 2 same.
In the drawings the portions marked A represent the main part of the board and B a card holder mounted thereon. The
board A is preferably circular in form with 95 its under face covered with felt to protect any surface on which it may be placed from injury, as from scratching or abrasion, and in its center it is formed with a bearing 12 in which the card holder is mounted. The
' 80 top surface of the board is preferably slightly dished from the center to the rim to facil-v itate the picking up of the cards, as by drawing them along the surface of the board to its edge, causing the cards to curve some- 35 what and thus be more easily handled.
The card holder B is preferably of cast metal having two compartments separated by sectional-partitions 10, each compartment being of the size of an ordinary playing card 40 and designed to receive and hold apack of cards. Recesses areformed in each edge of each compartment whereby the edges of the cards are made accessible to facilitate picking the cards out of said compartment. Each compartment has an upstanding flange at its corners of sufiicient height to retain the pack of cards therein. On the under side of said card holder and in its center is formed a circular lug or journal 11 which is mounted in the bearing 12 in the center of the board A. Said bearing is preferably of the'antifriction type, as a ball and socket bear- --the pack are placed in one of the compartments in the card holder on one side of the partition 10, and the cards discarded, as the playing proceeds, are placed in the compartment on the other side. This insures that the discard shall always be in order and that the player will be able to see only the top card, thus insuring the playing of the game. in an orderly, systematic and proper manner.
It will be obvious to those skilled in the art that various changes may be made in my device without departing from the spirit of my invention, and I, therefore, do not limit myself to what is shown in the drawings and described in the specification but only as set forth in the appended claim.
Having thus fully described my said invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
A board for playing cards comprising a board having an annular dished-shaped top and a central bearing, and a card holder with compartments for holding cards sepa- 4.
rated from each other having a ournal mounted in said bearing, substantially as set forth.
'In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand at Batesville, Indiana, this 11th day of April, A. D. nineteen hundred and twenty-seven.
PHILIP M. HOFFMANN.
