Description

K. L. WILSON ICE CREAM CONTAINER Filed Nov. 11. 1926 Nov. 27, 1928.
Patented Nov. 27, 192s.
UNITEDUSTATES XENTNER L. WILSON, OF MILLER, SOUTH DAKOTA.
ICE-CREAM CONTAINER.
Application led November 11, 1.926. Serial No. 147,739.
This invention relates to and has for one of its objects to provide a container which shall be especially adapted to be used for the purpose ofvending a small uantity of ice cream and which shall be provided with a follower adapted to permit the icecream to be gradually expelled therefrom so as to enable it to be readily eaten.
A further object of the invention is to provide a container of the character stated which shall 1be provided with a stick through the medium of which it may be carried and through the medium of which the follower may be moved to effect the gradual expelling of the ice cream from the container.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, the nature of which will become apparent as the description proceeds, the invention consists of the novel construction, combina- 'lOrtion and arrangement of parts hereinafter vfull whic described and claimed, and illustrated in t e accompanying drawing, wherein:
Figurel is a view in side elevation of an ice cream container constructed in accordance with my invention,
Figure 2 is a top plan view of the container, Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on the plane indicated by the line 3 3 of Figure 2,
Flgure 4 is a sectional'view taken on the l plane indicated by the line 4--4 of Figure 1, Figure 5 is a sectional view taken on the plane indicated by the line 5 5 of Figure 1,
Figure 6 is an elevational `the manner in which the follower and stick are to be used in expelling the ice cream from the container, and
' Fi ure 7 is a plan view of the blank from the conginer is formed. Corresponding ald like parts are referred to in the following description, and designated in the several views of the accompanying drawing, by similar reference characters.
The container which is made from the cardboard blank shown in Figure 7, comprises sides 1, 2, 3 and 4, and a strip 5 extending from the side 4 and secured to the inner face of the side 1. One end of the container' is closed by overlapping pieces 6, 7 and 8 which extend from the sides 1, 2 and 4,v and are retained in lace in the manner hereinafter pointed out. he other end of the container is closed by overlapping pieces 9, 10 and 11 which extend from the sides 1, `2 and 4 and are retained in place by aflap 12 extending from the end piece 9. The container is provided at one end with View illustrating an ear or apertured tab 13and at the other end with an ear or apertured tab 14. The tab 13 extends from the side 3, the tab 14 extends from the end piece 6, and both tabs occupy an inwardly inclined position with respect to said side. A stick 15 passes through the tabs 13 and 14 in parallel relation to the sid-e 3, and is provided with notches 16 for the reception of portions of the tabs. The stick 15 lengages the tabs 13 and 14 in a manner to prevent their 'acidental separation therefrom and to hold them in their proper position with respect to the container. The vtab 14 retains the end pieces 6,7 and 8 in position to close the end of the container to which they are secured.
A. follower 17- is arranged within the container atone end thereof, and is adapted -to be inoved in the direction of the other or discharge end of the container to gradually force the ice cream therefrom. The stick 15 may be readily disconnected from the tabs v13 and14 and used for the purpose of actuating the follower 17 Iand to permit the stick to be -brought into vcontact with the follower, that end of the container at which the follower is located is provided with an opening 18.
In practice, the cream isV placed in the container through that end thereof closed by the pieces 9, 10 and 11. These pieces are then positioned to close the container, and thereafter the stick 15 is engaged with the tabs 13 and 14. The container may now be readily carried through the medium of the stick 15. When it is desired to gain access to the ice cream, the stick 15 is disengaged from the tabs 13 and 14, and thereafter the pieces 9, 10 and 11 are swung into o ened position. The stick 15 is passed through) the opening 18 into contact with the follower 17 so as to permit it to be used for the pur of actuating the follower in order to e ect the gradual expelling of the ice cream through the now open end of the container.
The device constitutes a handy and attractive package for ice cream, permits the ice vcream to be readily eaten therefrom, and is simple and may be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low-cost.
It should be understood that the drawing is merely illustrative and does not pretend to give exact proportions. Furthermore, the said drawing is illustrative of a preferred construction, it being my expectation that va.- rious changes and modifications may be made Without departing l,from the spirit and scope of my invention. s
What is claimed is 1. A container provided at one end with an opening, a follower arranged within the container at said end thereof, a stick for advancing the follower and adapted to be passed through said opening into contact with the follower, a closure for the other` end of the container, and tabs carried by the container with which the stick is removably engaged \to serve as a handle for the container.
Y 2. A vcontainer provided at one end with an opening, a follower arranged within the container at said end thereof, a stick for advancing the follower and adapted to be passed through said opening into Contact with the follower, a closure for the other end of the ranged within the container at said end thereof, a stick vfor advancing the follower and adapted to be passed through said opening into contact with the follov. er, a closure for the other end of the container, and tabs carried by the ends of the container with which the stick is removably engaged to serve as a handle for the container, one of said tabs being carried by said first closure and the other by a side of the container.
4. A container provided at one end with an opening, a follower arranged within the container at said end thereof, a closure for the other end of the container, apertured tabs carried' by the container and extending beyond a side thereof, a stick passing through the tabs and provided with notches to receive portions thereof, said stick being removable from the tabs to permit it to be passed through said opening into contact
