Description

sept. 3, 1929. W BRIERLEY 1,727,227
CONTAINER Filed May 14, 1928 .if-alie?, flfle INVENTOR ATTORNEY WlTNESS:
Patented Sept. 3, 1929.
UNITED STATES WALTER BRIERLEY, or MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA.
CONTAINER.
Application led May 14,
This invention relates to containers having dispensing spouts for delivering predetermined quantities of the contents of the container by tilting the latter, and the invention is an improvement on the structure disclosed in my Patent No. 1,605,702.
The general object of the invention is to provide a container having a dispensing spout that is removable, whereby it can be easily cleaned with very little effort.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of the character set forth, that is formed from sheet metal or other relatively thin material and in a manner whereby it is inexpensive to manufacture, simple in construction, and efficient in operation and service.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a front view of the device'forming the subject matter of the present invention with the spout in applied position.
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view taken through Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a view similar to Figure 1 with the spout and top removed.
Figure 4 is a sectional view taken approximately on line 4 4 of Figure 2. c
Figure 5 is a detail view illustrating the spout.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the reference numeral 1 indicates the body of the container, which as shown is cylindrical in formation and has a handle 2 secured thereto by rivets or other like securing means.
The body is provided with a bottom 3 having a centrally disposed recess 4. formed therein, and this recess is provided with an opening to accommodate a screw 5 which is threadedly received in the bottom of a tube 6 for securing the tube to the bottom as clearly shown in Figure 2 of the drawings.
A detachable top 7 is provided for the body and while this topmay be of anydesired design, I have shown the saine as including a raised portion formed with a centrally dis- 1928. semi No. 277,665.
posed. opening to accommodate a screw 8 which 1s threadedly secured in the top of the tube 6 for securing the top 7 in a substantially leak proof manner to the body as shown in Figure 2. An annular bead 9 depends from the top and engages the inner side of the top edges of the body. The screw 8 is provided with a head 10 formed with a knurled finger engaging surface.
. rlhe body is formed with a relatively large slot 1l arranged substantially at right angles with respect to the handle 2 and the bottom of the slot is formed to provide an outwardly fiared Harige 12.
The spout is removably associated with respect to the body and includes a body plate 13 having flanges 14 secured to the side edges thereof for the purpose of providing channel guides for receiving the side edges of the slot 11 in the manner as best shown in Figure 4 of the drawings.
Extending inwardly from the body plate 13 are spaced parallel walls 15 which have secured to their inner edges for a portion of their length, a wall 16 having an inwardly fiared upper end 17, a rounded bottom 18 and an outwardly curved end 19 which extends outwardly beyond the surface of the body. The flange 12 is curved to the same degree as the curved end 19, and this flange 12 provides a scat for the curved cnd whereby a substantially leak proof connection will be formed between these parts as will be apparent. Extending outwardly from the body plate are side walls 20 which are formed with the edges of the projecting end 19 as shown in Figure 4. By this construction, a dispensing receptacle 21 is provided for receiving a portion of the contents of the container and this receptacle has extending therein a defiector plate 22 which terminates above the rounded bottom 18 as best shown in Figure 2.
From the above description and disclosure of the drawings, it will be obvious that when the container is tilted a quantity of the content-s thereof will be disposed in the dispensing receptacle and this quantity is poured therefrom through the instrumentality of the pouring spout which includes the curved end 19 and side walls 20.
As will be noted from Figure 2 of the drawings, the walls 15 terminate below the rounded bottom 18, and the free edges of the lower portions of these walls 15 as well as the lower edge of a downwardly inclined plate 23 which extends from the rounded bottom 18, are adapted to be disposed in contacting engagement with the lower portion of the wall of thc casing 1, when the spout is arranged in operative position.
It' is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
flint I claim is:
l. A container comprising a body having a slot formed therein, a predetermined quantity dispensing and pouring spout ,detachably secured in said slot and including a body plate, spaced inwardly extending parallel arranged walls formed with said body plate, a wall secured to the edges of said parallel walls and providing a chamber, side walls extending outwardly from said body plate and secured to the second mentioned wall to provide a pouring spout, and a partition arranged in said chamber.
2. A container of the character described comprising a cylindrical body having a slot formed therein, a predetermined quantity dispensing and pourinor s out detachably secured in said slot, gui e anges formed with said spout for receiving the side edges of the slot, an outwardly ilared iange forming the bottom wall of said slot and being engageable WALTER BRIERLEY.
