"IMPROVEMENT IN TOOL-HOLDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 187,600, dated February 20, 1877; application filed August 31, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE Corners, of Fort Wayne, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented an Improve ment in Tool-Holders, which the following is a specification:
The nature of my invention relates to a combined tool for joiners and cabinet-makers, having for its object to facilitate the boring and countersinki-ng of screw-holes, and the insertion of screws in wood-work.
The invention consists in the construction, arrangement, and combination of the parts composing my combined tool-holder, as fully hereinafter explained.
Figure l is a perspective view. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section.
In the drawing, A represents a metal fork havinga square shank, adapted to fit the socket of a bit-brace. B is a reversible double socket, pivoted by trunnions b b in the jaws of the fork. One socket is intended to receive the shank of a bit, 0, and the other the shank of a screw driver, D, respectively secured therein by set-screws c. A combined gage and counter-sink, E, is sleeved on the bit and secured in position by a set-screw, d. In each end of the socket B a longitudinal slot, e,is
cut, in which a sliding latch-bolt, f, enters to JJhe tool is inserted in the socket of a brace,
and with the bit the screw'hole is bored in the wood, the countersink serving both as a depthing-gage and to counter-bore it to receive the head of: the wood screw, which, after the socket B has been reversed, may be turned home by the driver.
I am aware of the patent granted to J. F. Murch, March 4,1873, and hereby disclaim the same.
What I claim-as my invention is-- The combined tool-holder described, consisting of the metal t'ork A, having square shank a, the reversible double socket B, pivoted by trunnions 1) between the ends of the said fork, the slots rain the ends of the socket, and thesliding spring-latch f, all constructed, arranged, and combined substantially as described and shown.
