The present invention relates in general to improvements in the art of treating the human skin in order to maintain the same in clear, healthy and attractive condition, and relates more specifically to improvements in the construction of skin conditioning implements especially adapted for cleansing and massaging the skin of the face.

Generally defined, an object of the invention is to provide an improved skin conditioner which is 10. simple and compact in construction, and which is moreover highly efiicient in use.

- The attempted removal of facial creams and cleansing agents by means of absorbent tissues, cotton dabs, or cloth, is not hygienic and beneficial to the skin, since the particles of foreign matter which it is intended to remove, are frequently rubbed back into the pores and tiny crevices and are not in fact removed. Then too, loose fibres from the cleansing material may be driven into the pores and crevices, thus assisting the foreign matter in the formation of blackheads or milia and in producing other skin diseases.

A more specific object of the present invention is to provide an improved toilet implement which may be utilized to gently and harmlessly remove particles of dirt, facial creams or the like, from concave, convex or straight portions of the skin, and which will simultaneously massage the treated portions to enhance the circulation and thus establish a healthy condition.

Another specific object of the invention is to provide a skin cleansing and massaging device which is neat and highly attractive in appearance, and which may be manufactured and sold at minimum cost.

A further specific object of the invention is to provide a durable skin treating appliance which my be conveniently manipulated to either scrape the skin for cleansing and massaging purposes, or

for the removal of local blackheads and milia from the pores.

These and other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following detailed description.

A clear conception of several embodiments of the invention, and of the mode of constructing and of utilizing skin conditioners made in accordance therewith, may be had by referring to the drawing accompanying and forming a part of this specification in which like reference characters designate the same or similar parts in the various views:

Fig. 1 is a perspective view of one type of the improved implement, viewed. from the handle side thereof;

Fig. 2 is an enlarged longitudinal central section through the cleanser plate of the implement;

Fig. 3 is a similarly enlarged top View of the the improved device illustrated therein comprises in general a dished scraper plate 8 having a convexly rounded forward edge portion 9 and a concave rear edge portion 10 connected to the forward portion 9 by relatively straight opposite 'side edge portions 11, 12, and a manipulating handle 13 rigidly attached to the central part of the plate 8 by riveting, soldering or otherewise.

The plate 8 may be formed of metal, and one of the straight side edge portions 11 may be rounded to provide a' relatively blunt edge, while the opposite edge portions 12 may be considerabh sharper. The front and rear edge portions 9, 10 may be either blunt or sharp as desired, and the rear projections 14.- formed at the junction of the concave portion 10 with the side portions 11, 12 are also preferably rounded as shown. Within each of the projections 14 is located a small hole 15, the function of which will be subsequently described.

The handle 13 may be formed of metal stock or of other suitable material and is enlarged at its end remote from the plate 8 to provide a rigid grip portion 16. This grip portion 16 may be fluted or knurled to enhance the gripping effect, and the handle may also be otherwise decorated to increase its attractiveness.

In order to permit removal of the plate 8 from the handle 13 so that the implement may be disposed flatwise in a carrier plate, the plate 8 may be formed as shown in Fig. 5 with a central detent having a hole therein which is penetrated by a screw 17. The adjacent end of the handle 13' may be provided with a threaded bore 18 adapted to receive the threaded end of the screw 1'7. The screw may either be fastened to the plate 8' or it may be loose, and obviously the handle 13 may be readily applied to or removed from the screw 17 to either assemble or dismantle the implement.

During normal use of either of the improved implements, and assuming the same to have been properly assembled, the side edge portions 11, 12 may be utilized to scrape and massage flat portions of the skin, such as the cheeks. By utilizing either the blunt edge portion 11 or the sharper edge portion 12, and varying the applied pressure, any desired degree of cleansing and massaging effect may be obtained. The rounded forward convex edge portion 9 and the more sharply rounded convex projections 14 may be utilized to treat depressions in the body, and the concave rear edge portion 10 may likewise be employed for the treatment of body or facial projections such as the nose. The holes 15 in the projections 14 may be utilized to facilitate removal of blackheads or the like from the skin, by merely superimposing the implement with one of the holes 15 centrally over the clogged pore, and applying pressure toward the skin, whereupon the pore obstruction will be forced through the adjacent hole 15.

The implement may thus be utilized to effectively cleanse the skin at flat, as well as at elevated and depressed surfaces thereof, and may be readily cleaned and sterilized whenever desired, without necessarily removing the handle. In practical use, this improved device has been found to quickly and effectively remove objectionable dirt and other dbris from the skin and to thoroughly cleanse the pores and glands, while at the same time serving to massage the treated body portions and thereby enhancing the circulation. Ihe cleanser may be used to remove ordinary facial creams or make-up and facial masks, and prevents dirt and other foreign matter from being rubbed into the pores. The handle construction is such that the device can be conveniently manipulated by virtue of the fact that the weight of the scraper plate is substantially counter-balanced by that of the enlarged handle portion 16, and the length of this handle also permits attainment of a long level stroke during skin treatment. The concavity and convexity of the edge portions of the plate may be varied to suit different types of skin, and this is also true of the degree of sharpness or bluntness of the scraping edges. The entire implement may be attractively plated or otherwise decorated to improve the general appearance thereof, and may be manufactured and sold at very moderate cost.

It should be understood that it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact details of construction herein shown and described, for various modifications within the scope of the claims may occur to persons skilled in the art.

It is claimed and desired to secure by Letters Patent:

1. A skin conditioner comprising, a dished plate having concave and convex end skin engaging edges and substantially straight connecting side edges, and a manipulating handle secured centrally to said plate.

2. A skin conditioner comprising, a dished plate having sharp and blunt opposite substantially straight skin engaging side edges and also having curved skin engaging end edges connecting said side edges, and a manipulating handle secured to and extending away from the dished face of said plate.

3. A skin conditioner comprising, a plate having concave and convex end skin engaging edges and substantially straight connecting side edges, and a manipulating handle extending away from one face of said plate and secured thereto within said edges.

4. A skin conditioner comprising, a dished plate having concave and convex end skin engaging edges and substantially straight connecting side edges, and a manipulating handle extending away from the dished face of said plate and secured thereto within said edges.

5. A skin conditioner comprising, a dished plate having sharp and blunt opposite substantially straight skin engaging side edges and also having concave and convex skin engaging end edges connecting said side edges to provide a continuity of peripheral edges, and a manipulating handle detachably secured to said plate within said edges and extending away from the dished face of the plate.
