This invention relates to articles of manufacture involving a reel characterized to represent a film and a container for said reel fashioned to support the reel and to permit the withdrawal thereof from the container in displaying the subject matter of the reel; and the object of the invention is to provide an article of manufacture of the class described involving a box or con tainer fashioned from a single blank and folded to form within the container end bearings or wall members for centralizing a reel in said container and in providing one part of the container with an elongated opening through which the strip from said reel is adapted to be drawn; a further object being to provide a reel in the form of a paper strip characterized to represent a motion picture film and having arranged thereon advertising or other matter descriptive of a predetermined business or merchandise of various kinds and classes; a further object being to provide a device of the class described, which is simple and economical in construction and which is so formed or constructed as to permit the shipment or transportation thereof by parcel post or otherwise and used as an advertising medium; and with these and other objects in view, the invention consists in an article of manufacture of the class and for the purpose specified, which is simple in construction, emcient in use, and which is constructed as hereinafter described and claimed.

The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which:

Fig. 1 is a perspective view of one form of device which I employ, with part of the construction broken away.

Fig. 4 is a plan View of a blank from which the box or container shown in Figs. 1 to 3 inclusive is formed.

In the construction shown in Figs. 1 to 4 inclusive, I employ a box or container 10 fashioned from the blank shown in Fig. 4 of the drawing. This blank consists of four elongated parts 11, 12, 13 and 14. The part 12 forms the bottom of the box, the parts 11 and 13 the side walls thereof and the part 14 the top or closure which includes a flap 14a and an elongated slot or opening 14b. Extending from the ends of the part 11 are end wall members 15 having slots 15a.

Extending from the part 13 are other end walls 16 having tongues 16a adapted to pass through the slots 15a in coupling the walls 15 and 16 together in forming the end walls of the box. Extending from the ends of the part 12 are elongated strips 17, divided by score lines into parts 17a, 17b, 17c and 17d. The parts 1712 form supplemental end walls; the parts 17b extend into the box and form the top walls of filler or bearing members employed for centering a film reel 18 in the compartment of the container; and the parts 170 extend downwardly to the bottom of the container and form the bearing walls against which the reel 18 rests, and these walls are held in position by the bottom parts 17d as clearly shown in Fig. 2 of the drawing.

The reel 18 is in the form of a printed, lithographed or otherwise formed paper strip, the bordering edges 18a of which are characterized to represent the perforated edges of a motion picture film. Intermediate said bordering edges is applied printed or other advertising matter in the form of words 18?), picture 180, etc., which in the construction shown, reads transversely of the film and is spaced longitudinally thereof.

The film subject matter may refer to and ad vertise any particular business or commercial service or may advertise one article of manufacture of any concern or a group of concerns, or several articles in a line, or in fact, may contain advertising matter of a number of diiferent concerns in kindred lines of industry, or in fact, in foreign lines, depending entirely upon the particular use to which the invention is applied.

After forming the box from blanks such as shown in Fig. 4 by coupling the end walls 15, 16 together with the parts 17a or supplemental end walls disposed inwardly thereof, and after folding the several parts 171), 17c and 17d to form the spacing or bearing members within the box, the reel 18 is then placed therein and one end of the reel is passed outwardly through the aperture or seal 14b in the cover 14, the flap 14a of the cover then placed within the wall part 11 to close the container, at which time the projecting end of the reel strip 18 is folded into the container between the fiap 14a and the wall 11 as is indicated in Fig. 1 of the drawing. The completed package may now be delivered or sent to a predetermined party or concern, and the receiver by reason of suitable instructions that may be applied to the exterior of the container, may remove the end of the reel strip 18 and withdraw the strip from the container. In this operation, the complete story as conveyed by the advertising matter appearing on the strip may be brought to the attention of such party in an attractive, interesting and convincing manner.

If desired, after the reel has been withdrawn from the container, the same may be rewound and replaced in the container by simply opening the cover 14 and rethreading the end of the film or reel strip through the aperture 14b as above stated.

In the construction shown in Figs. 5 and 7 of the drawing, I have shown a modified form of box blank, in which the parts 19, 20, 21 and 22 are equivalent in all respects to the parts 11 to 14 inclusive, the part 22 having the flap 22a. and slot 221), and the end walls 23 having the slots 23a are similar to the walls 15; the walls 24 with the tongues 24a are similar to the walls 16, and the supplemental end walls 25 are similar to the parts 1711, but in this construction, I add to the walls 25 two short parts 25a and 25b, the part 2511 being similar to the wall part 171), whereas the part 25b is simply a tongue for retaining the part 25a in position. It will also be seen that the parts equivalent to the parts 17b, 17c and 17d are added to the end walls 23a in the parts 237), 23c and 23d, the difference being that these parts extend as follows. The part 2312 is arranged adjacent the wall 21; the part 230 extends across the container from the wall 21 to the wall 19, and the part 23d extends along the wall 19 forming the spacing and bearing members similar to the corresponding members shown in Figs. 1 to 3 inclusive.

The use of the box shown in Figs. 5 and 6 will be identical to that of the box shown in Figs. 1 to 4 inclusive, and it will be understood that many adaptations of this article of manufacture may be beneficially used in the stimulating and creation of sales and in conducting advertising campaigns, and by reason of the simplicity of the device, this advertising may be accomplished at a very nominal cost.

It will be noted that the spacing and bearing members formed by the parts 17b, 17c and 17d extend into the box sufficiently to overlap the slot or opening Mb in the cover 14 so as to prevent the side edges of the reel strip from coming in contact with the ends of said slot which might result in the tearing of the film strip or the binding thereof.

At this time, it will also be understood that instead of using the device solely as an advertising medium, it may be sold as an article of manufacture to amuse both young and old, in which latter case, the film or reel may contain a series of pictures of educational or entertaining nature.

t will also be understood that while I have shown certain details of construction for carrying my invention into effect, that I am not necessarily limited to these details, and various changes in and modifications of the construction herein shown and described may be made within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the spirit of my invention or sacrificing its advantages.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

1. In an article of manufacture of the class described, a container fashioned from a single sheet of material folded to form side and end wall members, one of the side wall members including an elongated opening, one of said end wall members including relatively foldable parts arranged within the ends of the container and forming therein supplemental end walls disposed in spaced relation to the end walls proper of the container, and a reel of paper adapted to be mounted in the container between said supplemental end walls, the end of said paper reel projecting through the opening in the side wall of the container and by means of which said strip may be withdrawn from the container.

2. In an article of manufacture of the class described, a container fashioned from a single sheet of material folded to form side and end wall members, one of the side wall members including an elongated opening, one of said end wall members including relatively foldable parts arranged within the ends of the container and forming therein supplemental end walls disposed in spaced relation to the end walls proper of the container, a reel of paper adapted to be mounted in the container between said supplemental end walls, the end of said paper reel projecting through the opening in the side wall of the container and by means of which said strip may be withdrawn from the container, said reel strip being characterized to represent a motion picture film and including display subjects arranged longitudinally thereof.

3. In an article of manufacture of the class described, a container fashioned from a single sheet of material folded to form side and end wall members, one of the side wall members including an elongated opening, and means within the end walls of the container for forming supplemental wall members spaced with reference to the end walls proper of the container, said means involving parts arranged longitudinally and transversely of the container and the ends of the opening in the side wall of said container extending beyond said supplemental end Walls.

4. In an article of manufacture of the class described, a container fashioned from a single sheet of material folded to form side and end wall members, one of the side wall members including an elongated opening, and means within the end walls of the container for forming supplemental wall members spaced with reference to the end walls proper of the container, said means involving parts arranged longitudinally and transversely of the container, the ends of the opening in the side wall of said container extending beyond said supplemental end walls, and

the wall of the container including said opening constituting a cover for the container.

5. In an article of manufacture of the class described, a container fashioned from a single sheet of material folded to form side and end wall members, one of the side Wall members including an elongated opening, and means within the end walls of the container for forming supplemental wall members spaced with reference to the end walls proper of the container, the ends of the opening in the side wall of said container extending beyond said supplemental end walls, the wall of the container including said opening constituting a cover for the container, and a characterized elongated strip in the form of a reel adapted to be mounted in the container beby the fingers of a hand, one wall of said container having an elongated opening, the ends of which terminate short of the boundary edges of said wall and through which the reel strip passes, said opening being of greater length than the width of said strip, and means within the container adjacent the boundary edges of said wall for'supporting the side edges of the strip and reel inwardly of the ends of said opening to provide free removal of the strip from said container.
