Description
- 1. Field of the Invention
- The present invention relates to an air conditioner, and more particularly, to an air conditioner in which a defrost operation for defrosting an outdoor heat exchanger is unnecessary while performing a heating operation.
- 2. Description of the Related Art
- In general, an air conditioner is an apparatus for cooling or heating indoor using a refrigeration cycle including a compressor, an outdoor heat exchanger, an expansion device, and an indoor heat exchanger and is formed as an air conditioner for cooling indoor or is formed as an air conditioner (i.e., a heat pump) for both cooling and heating for cooling or heating indoor.
- When the air conditioner is formed as an air conditioner for both cooling and heating, the air conditioner includes a cooling/heating switching valve (i.e., 4-way valve) for changing a flow path of a compressed refrigerant in a compressor according to a cooling operation and a heating operation. In the air conditioner, when performing a cooling operation, as a refrigerant compressed in the compressor sequentially passes through a cooling/heating switching valve, an outdoor heat exchanger, an expansion device, an indoor heat exchanger, and the cooling/heating switching valve and is circulated to the compressor, the outdoor heat exchanger operates as a condenser and the indoor heat exchanger operates as an evaporator. In the air conditioner, when performing a heating operation, as a refrigerant compressed in the compressor sequentially passes through a cooling/heating switching valve, an indoor heat exchanger, an expansion device, an outdoor heat exchanger, and the cooling/heating switching valve and is circulated to the compressor, the indoor heat exchanger operates as a condenser and the outdoor heat exchanger operates as an evaporator.
- In a such air conditioner, water is generated on a surface of a heat exchanger operating as an evaporator while the air conditioner operates, in a case of a cooling operation, water is generated on a surface of the indoor heat exchanger, and in a case of a heating operation, water is generated on a surface of the outdoor heat exchanger, particularly, when condensate water generated on a surface of the outdoor heat exchanger is frozen, smooth flow of outdoor air and heat exchange are disturbed, and thus heating performance is deteriorated.
- When the air conditioner stops a heating operation while performing a heating operation and operates a refrigeration cycle to an inverse cycle (i.e., a cooling operation), a refrigerant of a high temperature and a high pressure passes through the outdoor heat exchanger, and frost of a surface of the outdoor heat exchanger is melted by heat of the refrigerant. After all frost of a surface of the outdoor heat exchanger by an inverse cycle of the refrigeration cycle is removed, if the refrigeration cycle is operated again to a heating operation, warm air is discharged to indoor.
- The present invention has been made in an effort to solve the above problems, and the present invention provides an air conditioner that can perform continuously heat with an indoor heat exchanger while defrosting an outdoor heat exchanger.
- According to an aspect of the present invention, there is provided an air conditioner including: a compressor for compressing a refrigerant; an indoor heat exchanger for cooling or heating indoor with a refrigerant; an outdoor heat exchanger for exchanging heat of a refrigerant and outdoor air; an outdoor fan for ventilating outdoor air to the outdoor heat exchanger; a cooling/heating switching valve for switching cooling/heating; a first expansion device installed between the indoor heat exchanger and the outdoor heat exchanger; a CNT heater module installed between the outdoor heat exchanger and the cooling/heating switching valve to evaporate a refrigerant; a second expansion device installed between the outdoor heat exchanger and the CNT heater module; and a controller for sustaining, while performing a heating operation, if a defrost condition becomes, a heating mode of the cooling/heating switching valve, fully opening the first expansion device, adjusting an opening degree so that the second expansion device expands a refrigerant, and performing a continuous heating defrost operation for operating the CNT heater module.
- The air conditioner may further include a CNT heater module/second expansion device bypass flow path for connecting between the cooling/heating switching valve and the CNT heater module and between the outdoor heat exchanger and the second expansion device.
- The air conditioner may further include a check valve installed in the CNT heater module/the second expansion device bypass flow path to block a refrigerant not to flow from between the outdoor heat exchanger and the second expansion device to between the cooling/heating switching valve and the CNT heater module.
- The air conditioner may further include a second expansion device bypass flow path for connecting between the second expansion device and the CNT heater module and the CNT heater module/the second expansion device bypass flow path.
- The air conditioner may further include a check valve installed in the second expansion device bypass flow path to block a refrigerant not to flow from between the second expansion device and the CNT heater module to the second expansion device bypass flow path.
- The defrost condition may be a condition for allowing a piping temperature of the outdoor heat exchanger to a setting temperature or less while performing a heating operation.
- The controller may initialize the second expansion device to a defrost initial opening degree and adjust an opening degree of the second expansion device under a defrost condition of the air conditioner.
- The air conditioner may further include: a compressor inhalation temperature sensor for detecting an inhalation temperature of the compressor; and a CNT heater module inlet temperature sensor for detecting an inlet temperature of the CNT heater module, wherein the controller may adjust an opening degree of the second expansion device so that a difference between an inhalation temperature of the compressor and an inlet temperature of the CNT heater module reaches a target inhalation superheat temperature.
- The controller may adjust an opening degree of the second expansion device at a second expansion device opening change setting time interval.

That is, after an opening degree of thesecond expansion device 60 is initialized, if the second expansion device opening change setting time period has elapsed, thecontroller 90 adjusts an opening degree of thesecond expansion device 60 so that a difference between a newly detected inhalation temperature of thecompressor 2 and an inlet temperature of theCNT heater module 50 reaches a target inhalation superheat temperature (for example, 3° C.), and adjusts an opening degree of thesecond expansion device 60 at the second expansion device opening change setting time interval. - The
controller 90 determines the tuned-on number of a plurality ofCNT heaters CNT heater module 50. Thecontroller 90 can sequentially turn on/off a plurality ofCNT heaters module temperature sensor 57. If a temperature detected in the CNT heatermodule temperature sensor 57 is less than the first setting temperature (100° C.), thecontroller 90 sequentially increases the turned-on number of the plurality ofCNT heaters module temperature sensor 57 is a first setting temperature (for example, 100° C.) or more and is less than a second setting temperature (for example, 120° C.) higher than the first setting temperature, thecontroller 90 sustains the present turned-on number of theCNT heaters module temperature sensor 57 is a second setting temperature or more and is less than a third setting temperature (for example, 150° C.) higher than the second setting temperature, thecontroller 90 sequentially reduces the turned-on number of the plurality ofCNT heaters module temperature sensor 57 is a third setting temperature (for example, 150° C.) or more, thecontroller 90 turns off all of the plurality ofCNT heaters - The
controller 100 determines the turned-on number of the plurality ofCNT heaters - Hereinafter, operation of the present invention having the above configuration is described as follows.
- First, when a cooling operation is manipulated through the
manipulation unit 90, thecontroller 100 controls the cooling/heating switching valve 30 to a cooling mode, drives thecompressor 2, drives theindoor fan 13 and theoutdoor fan 24, and adjusts an opening degree of thefirst expansion device 40. - When performing such a cooling operation, the
controller 100 may close thesecond expansion device 40 and control thesecond expansion device 40 to an opening mode. - When driving the
compressor 2, as shown inFIG. 1 , a refrigerant compressed in thecompressor 2 flows to the CNT heater module-cooling/heating switchingvalve connection pipe 32 by passing through the cooling/heating switching valve 30, flows to the second expansion device-the outdoor heatexchanger connection pipe 21 by passing through the CNT heater module/the second expansion devicebypass flow path 70, and is injected into theoutdoor heat exchanger 20. - The refrigerant injected into the
outdoor heat exchanger 20 is condensed while exchanging heat with outdoor air, is expanded in thefirst expansion device 40, and is injected into theindoor heat exchanger 10. - The refrigerant injected into the
indoor heat exchanger 10 is evaporated while exchanging heat with indoor air or water, flows to theaccumulator 5 by passing through the cooling/heating switching valve 30, and is recovered again to thecompressor 2 and compressed. - That is, when the air conditioner performs a cooling operation, a refrigerant is compressed in the
compressor 2 and bypasses theCNT heater module 50 and thesecond expansion device 60, is condensed in theoutdoor heat exchanger 20, is expanded in thefirst expansion device 4, and is evaporated in theindoor heat exchanger 10. - When a heating operation is manufactured through the
manipulation unit 90, thecontroller 100 controls the cooling/heating switching valve 30 to a heating mode, drives thecompressor 2, drives theindoor fan 13 and theoutdoor fan 24, and adjusts an opening degree of thefirst expansion device 40. When performing such a cooling operation, thecontroller 100 may close thesecond expansion device 40 and control thesecond expansion device 40 to an opening mode. - When driving the
compressor 2, as shown inFIG. 2 , a refrigerant compressed in thecompressor 2 flows to theindoor heat exchanger 10 after passing through the cooling/heating switching valve 30, is condensed by exchanging heat with indoor air or water while passing through theindoor heat exchanger 10, and is expanded in thefirst expansion device 40. - The refrigerant expanded in the
first expansion device 40 flows to theoutdoor heat exchanger 20 and is evaporated by exchanging heat with outdoor air while passing through theoutdoor heat exchanger 20. - The refrigerant evaporated in the
outdoor heat exchanger 20 flows to the second expansion device-the outdoor heatexchanger connection pipe 21, and flows to the second expansion device-CNT heatermodule connection pipe 58 by passing though the second expansion devicebypass flow path 80 if thesecond expansion device 40 is closed, and flows to the second expansion device-CNT heatermodule connection pipe 58 by passing through thesecond expansion device 40 if the second expansion device is opened. - The refrigerant flowed to the second expansion device-CNT heater
module connection pipe 58 passes through aflow path 51 of theCNT heater module 50 without exchanging heat, flows to the CNT heater module-cooling/heating switchingvalve connection pipe 32, flows to theaccumulator 5 by passing through the cooling/heating switching valve 30, and is recovered again to thecompressor 2 and is compressed. - That is, when the air conditioner performs a cooling operation, a refrigerant is compressed in the
compressor 2, is condensed in theindoor heat exchanger 10, is expanded in thefirst expansion device 40, is evaporated in theoutdoor heat exchanger 20, passes through or bypasses thesecond expansion device 60, and is recovered to thecompressor 2 after passing through theCNT heater module 50 without exchanging heat. - Upon performing such a heating operation, when the
outdoor heat exchanger 20 exchanges heat with outdoor air, frost is generated, and the air conditioner performs a continuous heating defrost operation if a defrost condition becomes during a heating operation. - Hereinafter, a continuous heating defrost operation will be described in detail with reference to
FIG. 6 . -
FIG. 6 is a flowchart illustrating a method of operating an air conditioner according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention. - If a heating time period is equal to or larger than a setting time period (for example, 45 minutes) while performing a heating operation and if a piping temperature of the
outdoor heat exchanger 20 is equal to or less than a setting temperature (−6° C.), thecontroller 100 performs a continuous heating defrost operation (S1)(S2). - That is, the
controller 100 controls theindoor fan 13 according to an outlet temperature of theindoor heat exchanger 10. Thecontroller 100 fully opens thefirst expansion device 40. Thecontroller 100 sustains a fan speed of theoutdoor fan 24. Thecontroller 100 initializes thesecond expansion device 60 to a defrost initial opening degree and controls the CNT heater module 50 (S2). - When performing such a control process, as shown in
FIG. 3 , a refrigerant compressed in thecompressor 2 flows to theindoor heat exchanger 10 by passing through the cooling/heating switching valve 30 and is condensed by exchanging heat with indoor air or water while passing through theindoor heat exchanger 10, and passes through thefirst expansion device 40 without expanding. - The refrigerant passed through the
first expansion device 40 without expanding flows to theoutdoor heat exchanger 20, passes through theoutdoor heat exchanger 20, and is condensed while defrosting frost generated on a surface of theoutdoor heat exchanger 20. - The refrigerant defrosted frost while passing through the
outdoor heat exchanger 20 flows to the second expansion device-the the outdoor heatexchanger connection pipe 21, and is expanded while passing though thesecond expansion device 40 distend. - The refrigerant expanded in the
second expansion device 40 flows to the second expansion device-CNT heatermodule connection pipe 58, injected into therefrigerant flow path 51 of theCNT heater module 50, and is evaporated while absorbing heat from the turned onCNT heaters CNT heaters - The evaporated refrigerant flows to the CNT heater module-cooling/heating switching
valve connection pipe 32, flows to theaccumulator 5 by passing through the cooling/heating switching valve 30, and is recovered again to thecompressor 2 and compressed. - That is, when the air conditioner performs a continuous heating defrost operation, a refrigerant is compressed in the
compressor 2, is condensed in theindoor heat exchanger 10, passes through thefirst expansion device 40 without expanding, is condensed in theoutdoor heat exchanger 20, and is expanded while passing through thesecond expansion device 60, and is recovered to thecompressor 2 after being evaporated in theCNT heater module 50. - Upon performing such a heating operation, when the
outdoor heat exchanger 20 exchanges heat with outdoor air, frost is generated and if a defrost condition becomes while performing a heating operation, the air conditioner performs a continuous heating defrost operation. - The
controller 100 controls theCNT heater module 50 at a CNT heater module change setting time interval (for example, 1 second) (S3 to S10). - If a temperature of the
CNT heater module 50 is less than a first setting temperature (100° C.), thecontroller 100 sequentially increases the turned-on number of the plurality ofCNT heaters - When a temperature of the
CNT heater module 50 is less than the first setting temperature (100° C.), if the turned-on number of the plurality ofCNT heaters controller 100 increases the turned-on number of the plurality ofCNT heaters - When a temperature of the
CNT heater module 50 is less than the first setting temperature (100° C.), if the turned-on number of the plurality ofCNT heaters controller 100 sustains the turned-on number of the plurality ofCNT heaters - If a temperature of the
CNT heater module 50 is equal to or higher than the first setting temperature (for example, 100° C.) and is less than a second setting temperature (for example, 120° C.) higher than the first setting temperature, thecontroller 100 sustains the present turned-on number of theCNT heaters - If a temperature of the
CNT heater module 50 is equal to or higher than the second setting temperature and is less than a third setting temperature (for example, 150° C.) higher than the second setting temperature, thecontroller 100 sequentially reduces the turned-on number of the plurality ofCNT heaters - If a temperature of the
CNT heater module 50 is equal to or higher than a third setting temperature (for example, 150° C.), thecontroller 100 turns off all of the plurality ofCNT heaters - The
controller 100 controls theCNT heater module 50 at a CNT heater module change setting time interval (for example, 1 second) and adjusts an opening degree of thesecond expansion device 60 at a second expansion device opening degree change setting time interval (for example, 10 seconds) (S11 to S13). - The
controller 100 controls an opening degree of thesecond expansion device 60 according to a target inhalation superheat temperature. - If a difference between an inhalation temperature of the
compressor 2 and an inlet temperature of theCNT heater module 50 is a target inhalation superheat temperature (for example, 3° C.) or more, thecontroller 100 increases an opening degree of thesecond expansion device 60 to a predetermined opening degree value in a previous stored table (S11)(S12). - If a difference between an inhalation temperature of the
compressor 2 and an inlet temperature of theCNT heater module 50 is less than a target inhalation superheat temperature (for example, 3° C.), thecontroller 100 reduces an opening degree of thesecond expansion device 60 to a predetermined opening value in a previously stored table (S11)(S13). - As described above, the
controller 100 adjusts thesecond expansion device 60, and if the second expansion device opening change setting time period has elapsed, thecontroller 100 adjusts again an opening degree of thesecond expansion device 60. - If a continuous heating defrost operation time period is larger than a defrost termination setting time period (for example, 10 minutes) and if a piping temperature of the
outdoor heat exchanger 20 is equal to or higher than a defrost termination setting temperature (for example, 12° C.), thecontroller 100 terminates defrost, and performs a general heating operation (S14)(S15). - The
controller 100 sustains a heating mode of the cooling/heating switching valve 30, and continues to drive thecompressor 2, theindoor fan 13, and theoutdoor fan 24, and adjusts an opening degree of thefirst expansion device 40. Thecontroller 100 closes thefirst expansion device 40 or controls thesecond expansion device 40 to an opening mode. - In an air conditioner according to the present invention having the above-described configuration, when performing a heating operation, if a defrost condition becomes while a refrigerant of a high temperature flows to the outdoor heat exchanger, the outdoor heat exchanger is defrosted, a refrigerant passing through the outdoor heat exchanger is expanded in a second expansion device and is evaporated in a CNT heater module and thus continuous heating can be performed with the indoor heat exchanger.
- Further, upon performing low temperature heating in which an outdoor temperature is low, indoor can be continuously heated, and thus heating ability can be enhanced.
- The embodiment of the invention being thus described, it will be obvious that the same may be varied in many ways. Such variations are not to be regarded as a departure from the spirit and scope of the invention, and all such modifications as would be obvious to one skilled in the art are intended to be included within the scope of the following claims.
