This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a holder for cross-word puzzles.

More specifically the invention is characterized by the construction of a cross-word puzzle holder 5 i which is suitable for use in either a sitting or a reclining position.

Still further the invention provides for a table forming member which is pivotally connected at its top edge with a dat support member and a means extending between the bottoms of said members for limiting the pivoting of said members to an inverted V-shaped formation in which it will easily stand in an upright'position.

Still further the inventionprovides for clips which may be engaged over the edges of a sheet of `cross-Word puzzles and a portion of the table forming member for retaining the sheet of puz zles in position thereon.

It is another object of this invention to provide 90 a pocket element on one of the faces of the iiat support member which may be used for storing cross-word puzzles.

The invention is further characterized by the provision of a tubular member which is xedly mounted to the bottom of the table forming member for conveniently maintaining a pencil in position thereon.

Another object of this invention is` to provide a receptacle mounted on the inner face of one of `said members which may conveniently carrya dictionary or similar article which may be used for looking upthe meaning of obsolete Words, which may occur in any one cross-word puzzle.

The holder for cross-word puzzles, according to this invention, comprises a table forming member 20 pivotally mounted at its top edge to a spacer element 2I. A flat support member 22 is pivotally connected at its top edge with the other end of the spacer element 2|. vA means for limiting the separating of said table member and said support member is applied to the device to prevent pivoting of said members'to an inverted V-shaped formation, or a formation in which the .5.' t

The pencil Il is to be used for writing the solutions to the puzzles. 35 i An extendable andcollapsible receptacle 25 is mounted on the innerface of the support member 22 and is adapted to receive a dictionary or similar article which may be used for looking up obsolete Words appearing in the puzzles. This col- 40 lapsible receptacle 25 comprises a wall section 25' forming one end and the front side thereof, and a wall section 25" forming the other end thereof. The section 25' has one of its portions 25a Xedly attached to the inner face of the support member 46 22. An end section 25b continues from one end of the section 25a, and a section 25c continues from the other end of the section 25h and forms the front wall of the receptacle. The section 25 has an opening 26 formed in its o ther end 25d. 50 The section 25" has one of its ends 2lie xedly attached to the inner face of the support member 22 and has a section 25f extending from one end of the section 25e forming the other end of said receptacle and is provided at its outer end with 55 a lug 21 which engages through the opening 26 in the extended position of these elements to hold them in their normal positions.

A bottom Wall 28 for the receptacle 25 has one 5 of its edges 28a attached to the inner face of the back of the front wall 25c and frictionally engages this front wall to maintain the bottom 28 in position on the receptacle.

When it is desired to fold the device the bottom portion 28 is pressed out to assume the lowered position shown by the dot and dash lines 28' in Figs. 1 and 4. Then the receptacle 25 is collapsed by disengaging the lug 21 from the slot 26 to permit these sections to be folded back to assume the dot and dash line position 25g shown The spacer element 2| permits the table forming member to be closed upon the open receptacle 25, so that a dictionary may be stored therein even while the member 20 is parallel to the support member 22.

It is to be understood that in place of clips I3, any other suitable holding means may be provided for gripping the cross-word puzzle sheets I4.

While I have illustrated and described the pre- 30ijerred embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise constructions herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modications coming within the scope of the invention as defined zin the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is: v

l. In a holder for cross-word puzzles a table iorming member pivotally connected at its top edge with a spacer member, a flat support member pivotally connected at its top edge with said spacer member, means for limiting the separating of said table member and said support member,

45,. and an extended collapsible receptacle mounted on the inner face of said support member.

2. In a holder for cross-word puzzles a table forming member pivotally connected at its top edge with a spacer member, a flat support mem- ,ber pivotally connected at its top edge with said spacer member, means for limiting the separating of said table member and said support member, and an extended collapsible receptacle mounted on the inner face of said support member, said fspacer member'being constructed of a piece of substantially flat material having a width equal to the width of said collapsible receptacle to keep said table forming member and said support member in a parallel position when said device is folded with said collapsible receptacle engaging the rear face of said table member.

A holder for cross-word puzzles comprising a table forming member pivotally connected at its top edge with a spacer member, a flat support member pivotally connected with said spacer member, means for limiting the separating of said table member and said support member, and an extended collapsible receptacle mounted on the inner face of said support member, said means for limiting the separating of said members comprising a cord or other member extending between the bottom edge of said members, said extendable collapsible receptacle comprising a strip of material attached to the inner face of said support member and forming one end and the front face of said receptacle, and a second strip of material xedly attached to the inner face of said support member and forming the other end of said receptacle, a bottom for said receptacle having one of its ends xedly attached to the inner face of said support member and having the other of its ends extending into said receptacle and frictionally maintaining itself in position, and means on the contacting ends of said strips of material to keep these strips in their extended position.

A holder for cross-word puzzles comprising a table forming member pivotally connected at its top edge with a spacer member, a flat support member pivotally connected with said spacer member, means for limiting the separating of said table member and said support member, and an extended collapsible receptacle mounted on the inner face of said support member, said means for limiting the separating of said members comprising a cord or other member extending between the bottom edge of said members, said extendable collapsible receptacle comprising a strip of material attached to the inner face of said support member and forming one end and the front face of said receptacle, and a second strip of material xedly attached to the inner face of said support member and forming the other end of said receptacle, a bottom for said receptacle having one of its ends xedly attached to the inner face of said support member and having the other of its ends extending into said receptacle and frictionally maintaining itself in position, and means on the contacting ends of said strips of material to keep these strips in their extended position, said means comprising a lug on one of thev sections engaging an opening in the other of the sections.
