This invention relates to a folding carton and blank therefor and has special reference to a combination display container which combines both a box or outer container and cushion partition, the whole being made from a one piece cardboard blank. 4

One important object of the invention is to provide a carton of this class wherein the entire contents of the container is visible and wherein the box may be covered by a transparent cover which will protect the contents from dust, dirt and deterioration through evaporation.

A second important object of the invention is to provide a carton of this character having ll cushioned portions which support and protect fragile articles from breakage, the container being especially adapted to hold glass ornaments, chocolate covered confections, hollow chocolate and the like.

go A third important object of the invention is to make this container from a single cardboard blank whereby to lessen expense of assembling several blanks, the entire container being formed by folding the parts into position and there securing them without the use of adhesives or the like.

With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in general of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts so hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and particularly pointed 'out in the appended claims.

In the accompanying drawings, like characters of reference indicate like parts in the several views, and:

In the embodiment of the invention as herein disclosed the blank consists of a rectangular body portion ill having relatively long sides and rela- 5 tively short ends and to the body portion iii are connected bottom portions II, the bottom portions being defined from the body portions by weakened or fold line l2 extending from end to end of the body portions. Each of these bottom 10 portions is of general rectangular form but the outer corners thereof are rounded as at I3. To the edges of the portions H which are parallel to the fold line l2 are connected central rib portions ll which are defined from the portions l l by 16 weakened or fold lines l5.

Body portion In consists of a central part l6 and side parts I'I. These parts l6 and H are defined from each other by a series of spaced slits l8 so that each series of slits forms a weakened or fold 20 line enabling the side portions to be readily folded into position at right angles to the central portion Hi. The slits at one side are arranged opposite the slits on the other side of the central portion and thus form spaced pairs. The slits of 55 each pair have their ends connected by weakened or fold lines l9 so that the parts I! are connected by transverse top portions 20. The portions between each pair of the side slits l8 and the pair of fold lines l9 constitute transverse partition go forming portions which are separated centrally between the fold lines l9 by crenelated slits 2i having opposed V-notches 22 formed in their separated edges at the middle portion thereof.

In setting up the device the blank may be laid on a flat surface and then the parts I 1 are bent up at right angles to the part Hi to form the lon-' gitudinal sides of the carton. When this is done a carton is provided with side walls between which is a central wall or rib 'and said carton also is provided with yieldable or Sylphrap adhesively secured to the sides and end parts of the carton or such carton may be entirely wrapped in material of this character.

It will now be seen that the carton is formed from a single piece of cardboard or other like material and that there is substantially little waste in the cutting of the blank forming the device. It will also be seen that the device is very readily assembled and requires no adhesive for holding the parts together and, when so assembled, forms a rugged and substantial carton. Finally, by means of the crenelated edges and movable transverse walls very delicate material may be supported in the carton without danger of fracture or other injury.

1. A carton formed from a single blank of suitable cardboard-like material cut and scored to form a bottom, sides and ends, the bottom being scored to fold lengthwise to form a longitudinal partition, integral portions connecting the sides to form transverse partitions interlocking with the longitudinal partition to provide a series of individual compartments, each of said transverse partitions comprising a top member and a pair of parallel depending walls integrally connected to the top member, said central and transverse partitions having co-acting notches with the notches of the central partition being wider than the thickness of the central partition thereby permitting yielding movement of said central partition.

2. A carton blank comprising a body portion of rectangular form having a central part forming portion adapted to constitute transverse top and partition. wall members, each of the parts forming the partition wall members consisting of a pair of wall portions divided by a crenelated slit and having a fold line at the opposite edge from the slit, each of said transverse walls forming portions having a central notch on the crenelated side, said body portion having side forming portions defined from the transverse wall portion by aligned slits, bottom portions connected to the outer edges of said side portions and defined :t'
