This invention relates to flower pots and its general object is to provide an ornamental con tainer for a flower pot that not only acts in the capacity as a jardiniere, but includes means to ventilate the bottom thereof as well as to allow for the escape of surplus water, thereby overcoming offensive odors as well as contributing toward the health of the plant.

Another object of the invention is to provide an ornamental container of the character set forth, that is capable of supporting flower pots of various sizes and uniform heights.

A further object of the invention is to provide a container that is simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture, and extremely eflicient in use and service.

This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.

In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:

Figure l is a view of a container constructed in accordance with the present invention with parts broken away and in section with a flower pot supported therein.

Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view taken through the container showing an insert for supporting a relatively small flower pot.

Figure 3 is a similar view showing a different type of insert than that disclosed in Figure 2.

Referring to the drawing in detail, the reference numeral l indicates the body of my container which as shown is tapered toward the lower end thereof and formed on the upper end is an outwardly flared flange 2, the latter providing a shoulder and has formed therewith and rising therefrom a relatively wide annular portion 3 in the form of .a ring which has its upper edge rolled upon itself to provide a bead 4. The annular portion or ring 3 has preferably formed therein a plurality of vertically arranged outward-1y directed depressions to provide lugs 5 which not only act to add to the attractiveness of the container, but likewise reinforces the same as will be apparent.

Arranged adjacent the lower end of the body I and at intervals about the circumference thereof is a plurality of vent openings which are formed by slitting the body and pressing the metal outwardly to provide substantially V- shaped cup members 6. These vent members not only allow for ventilation and the circulation of air through the lower portion of the container, but likewise allow for the drainage of surplus water.

The body I is provided with a bottom I and secured thereto is a base member 8 that includes a downwardly inclined outwardly flared annular portion having its outer edge rolled upon itself to provide a -bead9. The base is soldered or otherwise secured to the bottom 1 and of course acts to substantially support the container to prevent tip-ping thereof as well as adds to its ornamentation.

In Figure 2 I have illustrated the use of an attachment for my container, and which is in the form of a flat ring like member ID that rests upon the shoulder formed by the flange 2. will be apparent upon inspection of Figure 2, that the attachment is designed to support relatively small pots within the container in a manner whereby theshoulder provided by the rim of the pot is received by the attachment with the pots suspended from the latter.

In Figure 3 I have illustrated another attachment for my container which is in the form of an insert having a perforated top wall II and a tapered depending wall l2 to fit the wall of the body as shown, and the insert is of course adapted to support relatively small pots which rest thereon.

From the above description and disclosure of the drawing, it will be obvious that I have provided a container that not only acts in the capacity as a jardiniere, but is capable of supporting pots of various sizes and at a uniform height, and the container is provided with ventilating means for the purpose set forth. The container may be made from any material but is preferably constructed from metal such as tin or the like, so that it will be inexpensive to manufacture and is primarily designed to take the place of the usual fanciful paper wrappings.

It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.

I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.

What I claim is:

1. A flower pot container comprising a tapered body having an outwardly flared shoulder at the upper end thereof, an annular portion formed on and rising from the shoulder and provided with reinforcing means, substantially V-shaped cup members disposed about the body adjacent its lower end and the body being slit at the upper end of said members to provide ventilating means, and supporting means for the body.

2. A flower pot container comprising a tapered body, an outwardly flared flange formed on the upper end of the body to provide a shoulder, an annular portion formed on the shoulder and rising therefrom, a pot supporting means received by the shoulder, said body being provided with ventilating means, and supporting means for said body.

3. A flower pot container comprising a bottom wall, a body including a wall formed on and rising from the bottom wall and tapering inwardly from its upper end, and pot supporting means detachably mounted in said body and including a perforated top wall for receiving the pot, and a wall formed on and depending from the margin of the top wall and tapered to fit the body wall to be supported thereby above the bottom wall.

A flower pot container comprising a tapered body, outwardly directed vertically disposed substantially V-shaped cup members disposed about the body adjacent its lower end and the body being slit at the upper end of said members to provide ventilating means, a bottom wall for said body, means secured to the bottom wall for supporting the container in an elevated position,

an annular portion at the upper end of the body and provided with reinforcing means, and pot supporting means within the container.
