This invention relates to an adjustable eraser support, the primary object of the invention being to provide an eraser including a tubular holder adapted to be positioned over an end of a pencil, the holder being so constructed that the body portion thereof may be readily adjusted to expose a greater length of the rubber, as the rubber becomes Worn.

Another object of the invention is to provide an eraser wherein the rubber section thereof may be readily replaced when the rubber section becomes worn beyond use.

With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein described, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.

view taken on line 22 View taken on line 3-3 Referring to the drawing in detail, the eraser comprises a tubular body portion indicated by the reference character 5, the body portion 5 having a contracted end portion to be positioned over the usual rubber of a pencil.

Secured within the by means of the threads 6, is a threaded member l, the threaded member I being of a length to extend beyond the open end of the body portion 5, where it is formed with a cup 8. The cup 8 provides a receiver for one end of the rubber section 9, which is secured within the cup 8, by frictional contact therewith, the rubber section being substantially long.

The reference character It designates a tubular member that is fitted over the cup 8 and rubber section 9, the outer end of the tubular member being spaced from the outer end of the tubular section, so that the tubular section may be employed for erasing purposes.

The inner end of the tubular member H3 is split providing a finger I I which is bent inwardly to engage between the threads of the member 7, as clearly shown by Figure 2 of the drawing. Thus it will be seen that due to this construction, the tubular member I!) may be telescoped tubular body portion 5, as Iii within the body portion 5, by merely rotating the tubular member H3, in a predetermined direction. In order that rotary movement of the tubular member it with respect to the body portion 5, will be restricted, a tongue i2 is formed at the inner end of the tubular member, by providing slits in the tubular member, the slits extending inwardly from the inner end of the tubular member. The portion between the slits is bent outwardly to frictionally engage the inner surface of the tubular body portion 5. In order to rotate the tubular member Id, it will be necessary to overcome the action of the tongue [2 against the inner surface of the body portion 5.

From the foregoing it will be seen that due to the construction shown and described, when the rubber section 9 becomes worn, the tubular member 19 may be rotated to expose a portion of the rubber section. When the rubber section has become worn beyond use, it is only necessary to remove the portion of the rubber section remaining in the cup 8, and replace the portion of the rubber section remaining, with a new rubber section. It will of course be understood that when a new rubber section has been provided, the tubular member Iii will be rotated to extend the outer end thereof to a point adjacent to the outer end of the rubber section, bracing the rubber section 53 while in use.

What is claimed is:

1. An eraser comprising a tubular body portion adapted to be fitted over one end of a pencil, a threaded member within the body portion and spaced from the wall thereof, a cup on the end of the threaded member and in which an eraser is held, a guard sleeve positioned on the threaded member and adapted to move over the eraser, a finger extending inwardly from the guard sleeve and cooperating with the threads of the threaded member in moving the guard sleeve longitudinally of the body portion, as the guard sleeve is rotated.

An eraser comprising a tubular body portion adapted to be fitted over one end of a pencil, a threaded member rising within the body portion, a sleeve movable within the body portion, a finger extending inwardly from the sleeve and cooperating With the threads of the threaded member in moving the sleeve longitudinally of the threaded member as the sleeve is rotated, a cup on one end of the threaded member in which an eraser is held, said sleeve adapted to move over the eraser exposing portions of the eraser for use.

3. An eraser comprising a tubular body portion adapted to be fitted on one end of a pencil, a threaded member within the body portion and spaced from the Wall thereof, a sleeve movable over the threaded member and adapted to move longitudinally of the threaded member as the sleeve is rotated, a cup on the threaded member and in which one end of an eraser is positioned, said sleeve adapted to move over the eraser exposing portions of the eraser for use, and a finger formed integral with the sleeve and engaging the inner surface of the body portion, restricting rotary movement of the sleeve.

4. An eraser comprising a tubular body portion, one end of the body portion adapted to be fitted over one end of a pencil, supporting means mounted within the body portion and spaced from the inner Wall of the latter, a cap carried on the outer end of said means for holding an eraser, and means for gradually moving the sleeve 10 through the body portion, as the sleeve is rotated.
