Y Plow. No. 240,579. Patented April26, i881.
^ ILPETERS: FKOT0-LITHOGRAPHEL WASHINGTON. D. C.
and I do hereby declare the following to be a ILo 4reference being had to the annexed drawings,
ATENT OFFICE.
JAMES M. DGRMON, OF ARCADIA, LOUISIANA.
PLow.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters'IPatent No. 240,579, dated April 26, 1881.
Application filed Tune 26, 1880. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, JAMES M. DoRMoN, a resident of the town of Arcadia, parish ofBienville, and State otLonisiana, have invented a certain new and useful Improvementin Plows; full, clear, and correct description of the same, making4 a part of this specification.
his invention relates more particularly to that class ot' plows known as turning-l'ilop's.7 It consists in forming the blades in two pieces, and in so constructing the parts that they may readily and rigidly be secured together.
The object in viewis to enable be removed, should the same become broken ortoo badly worn to perform good work, and to provide for the substitution ot' new points in lieu of those removed. My invention will be more readily understood by referring to the accompan ying drawings, whereoup Figure l is a front view, partially in per-' spective, of the plow. Fig. 2 is a sectional View, showing the lap and connections, taken` through theline x wot Fig. 1. Fig. Sis a rear view of the plow. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the plow-point section. Fig. 5 is a perspec- 4 tive View of the upper portion of the plow, showing the lapping' of the pieces. Fig. 6 is. a perspective view ot' the nioldboard section.
In the annexed drawings, forming a part of this specification, the letter A represents the mold-board section, and B represen ts the plo'wpoint section. The section A is -formed with an offset, d, affording a seat for the upper portion of 'the plow-point section, and is also formed WithAtwo openings or holes to receive the bolt and stud, hereinafter described. The lower edge, e, of the mold-board section is tapering or beveled, as seen in Fig. 6 of the drawthe points to `adjusted and `or otherwise constructed so as ings. The plo w-point section Bis formed, near its upper end, with an opening to receive a bolt, and with a screw-threaded stud, D, arranged immediately below, as shown in Fig. 4 of the drawings. The lower edge of this plow-point section is turned up, forming a V shaped groove, h, as seen in Fig. 4,1.0 receive and form a seat for the lower beveled edge of the moldboard section, as shown in cross-section in Fig. 2 ofthe drawings. The sections A and B are secured together in their relative positions by the bolt C and screw-threaded stud D, as t'ully seen in Figs. l, 2, and lof the drawings. The parts ot' the sections which are placed in contact with one another are rolled to fit snugly, and to present on either side a perfectly even and smooth surface.
The introduction ot' my invention will reduce the labor and cost ot' keeping plows in repair, owing to the fact that it dispenses entirely with the welding and resetting or reshaping ot' the same.
The points are very easily and cheaply made, and their application tothe main parts readily and securely eii'ccted.
Having described my invent-ion, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
'lhe combination ot the plow-point section B, formed with the V-shaped groove at the base, and the mold-board section A, havingits lower edge beveled, said section B adapted to overlap the section A, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof l have hereunto signed lmy name.
JAMES M. DORMON. i In presence of- D. E. BROWN, B. W. GLovnR.
