nppueauenseptemeer e, leeasenaino. 1 95x101 My. invention relates to; ironing tables.
One of the objects of my invention is to provide an improved, ironing table having improved means for adjustingthe height of the top.
Further objects and advantages of the invention will be :apparentfrom the description and claims.
Inthe drawings; in which an embodiment of my invention is shown,
Figure 1 is a side elevational view of an ironing table embodying-my invention;
Fig. 2 isa plan View of the table with the top removed;
Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3--3 of Fig. 1; and
Fig. 4 is a section onwthe line Li-i of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the ironing table shown comprises a top I, the outline of which is shown in fine dash lines in Fig. 2, a pair of crossed leg units 2 and 3 mounted on said top for movement in unisonirom, a folded position to an extended position, shown in Fig. 1, means for holding'the leg units in extended position, comprising a guided member 4 secured to the upper end of none of the leg units, and a guide 5 mounted underneath the top extending parallel thereto and longitudinally thereof for slidably guiding the guided :member l in the movement of the leg units from open to closed position, and vice versa, a lever latch 8 extending underneath, adjacent and longitudinally of the top having an intermediate portion fulcrumed at I on the top at an intermediate portionlof the top and having a hook-lihelatch end B engage-able by the guided member 4 in its movement to forcewthe hook-like end away from the top toenable the guided member to pass and to move to hooked latching position, the other handle end i] of the lever being adjacent an end edge of the top in convenient position for manipulation, and spring means Hi biasing the lever to move to latching position.
As shown inFig. .3, the upper rounded end of the leg unit engages the lower surface of the top I, thus cooperating with the guide 5 and guided member ii for insuring that the guided means are guided for rectilinear movement.
The hook-like latch end has a plurality of longitudinally-spaced recesses i l for selective engagement with the guided member 3 for securing the desired height of the top. The latch comprises a pair of latch members [2 straddling the guide 5 for maintaining alignment.
The crossed leg units 2 and 3 are pivoted together at their intermediate portion at l3, one unit 2 having its upper end pivotally secured to the top at M and the other leg unit 3 having its 3 Claims. (Cl; 38 123) upper end connected with the guided member "4. In changing the table from its ioldedposition to its position fornuse, shown in Fig. 1, the table may be placed with the end If of the top on the floor and theend Iii of the leg unit 3 and the and ill of the board moved to separate them, causing the guided member to slide inits guidedmovement until it engages the sloping end edge it of the latch lever. As the guided member continues to move, it will force the latchend '8 of the latch lever away from the top I, enabling the guided member to engage any one of the several notches in the latch lever to hold the top atthe desired elevation when placedin position for use.
To change the table from the position of use shown inl ig. 1 to the folded position the end of the latch lever is moved upwardly toward the top, thus releasing the latch end from engagement with the guided member and enabling the top and leg units to move to folded position.
It will be seen, when the leg units 2 and 3 are moved to folded closed position, with the end I6 of the leg unit 55 against the end I? of the board, that the distance of those ends of the upper and lower guide surfaces on i and 5 which are remote from the pivotal mounting M, from said pivotal mounting, is at leastas great as the sum of the distance between the pivotal mounting M and the, pivotal connection 13, plus the distancefrom IE to 5.
Further modifications will be apparent to those skilled in the art and it is desired, therefore, that ,the invention be limited only by the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. An ironing table comprising a top, leg units mounted on said top for movement in unison from a folded to an extended position, means forholding said leg units in different positions of adjustment comprising guided means movable with the upper end of one of said leg units, said table having guide means including upper and lower smooth unobstructing guide surfaces between which said guided means are guided for rectilinear movement underneath and parallel to said top in the entire movement of the leg units, from open to closed position, and vice versa, said leg units comprising a pair of crossed units pivoted together at their intermediate portions, one unit having its upper end pivotally secured to said top and the other unit having its upper end movable with said guided means, said crossed units being foldable flat underneath the top by movement of said guided means away from the pivoted upper end, the distance of the ends of said guide surfaces remote from the pivotal mounting of said upper end from said pivotal mounting being at least as great as the sum of the distance between said pivotal mounting and the pivotal connection of said crossed units plus the distance from said pivotal connection to said guided means, and means for securing said guided means in a plurality of different positions along said guide means to adjust the height of the table top comprising releasable latch means mounted on said top movable into and out of the path of said guided means for holding said guided means in said different positions and releasing them for movement between said guide surfaces, said securing means comprising a pivoted latch member extending longitudinally of the table underneath said guided means, having a plurality of longitudinally-spaced upwardly open recesses for selective engagement with said guided means for securing the desired height of the top, said latch member being movable downwardly out of the path of said guided means, means for pivotally mounting said latch member on said table and underneath said top and means for urging said latch member to swing upwardly into latching engagement with said guided means.
