This invention relates to a game board for the game known as Bingo, and has for its principal object the provision of a simple and highly effioient board construction which will have selfcontained slides for covering the numbers on the board.
Another object of the invention is to provide a board of this type in which the number-covering means or slides will be entirely concealed except when in position to cover a number, and in which 1 all slots will be eliminated from the exposed face of the board and yet eflicient means will be provided for moving the individual number slides.
Other objects and advantages reside in the detail construction of the invention, which is designed for simplicity, economy, and efiiciency. These will become more apparent from th following description.
In the following detailed description of the invention, reference is had to the accompanying drawing which forms a part hereof. Like numerals refer to like parts in all views of the drawing and throughout the description.
In the drawing:
Fig. 1 is a front view of one form of th improved board with the various component parts, broken away to illustrate the interior construction;
Fig. 2 is a vertical section through the board of Fig. taken on theline 2-2, Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is an enlarged View, illustrating a metal blank from which the number slides for the improved board are made;
Fig. 4 is a similarly enlarged view, illustrating the blank of Fig. 3 folded to form a number s ide;
Fi 5 is a fragmentary, broken-away, front view of an alternate form of the invention;
Fig. 6 is a fragmentary, vertical section through the alternate form of Fig. 5; and
Figs. 7 and 8 are top and bottom perspective views, respectively, of a number slide used in the alternate form of Fig. 5.
The first form of the improved board consists of three parts: a main board II], a backing board H, and a front cover sheet [2. The backing board 5 l is imprinted with game numbers, such as indicated at E3, preferably spaced in vertical and horizontal rows. The main board I is cemented or otherwise secured to the backing board ll around the peripheries of the; two boards by means of glue or other adhesive material, as indicated at M.
The main board l0 contains a plurality of openings l positioned over and about each of the numbers it. Horizontal, elongated slots IB- are formed above and below each of the openings l5. The cover sheet i2 is pasted or otherwise secured over the face of the main board Ill. The cover sheet is provided with rectangular openings ['1 which register with the openings I5 in the main board it. The cover sheet is not slotted, however, so that it conceals the elongated slots [6 of the main board l0.
A. number slide is provided for closing each of the openings 55 and covering the respective number therein. The slides may be formed from a relatively thin metallic blank, such as illustrated in Fig. which is folded along fold lines, indicated in broken line at l8, to form the slides of Fig. 4. The slide could, if desired, be molded integrally from plastic or the like. Each slide consists of a number-covering portion l9, two guide ridges 2t, and an upstanding finger tab 2|. When the slides are positioned in the board, the guide ridges 2t project into the elongated slots it but do not project through to the front surface of the board It. The finger tabs 2| extend upwardly from the number-covering portion l9 so as to project outwardly from the openings [5 beyond th front surface of the board 10.
Two side flanges 22 on the tabs bear and slide against the back of the board Ill. The slides are held in place by means of the backing board H and the guide ridges 20 are concealed by the cover sheet Hi. It is preferred to have the flanges 22 extend slightly rearward from the plan of the portion 59 so as to support the latter forwardly of the backing board it to prevent erasure of the numbers it on the latter as the slides are moved back and forth.
It can be readily seen that the finger tabs 2| can be pushed to the right or left to slide the number slides over or away from the numbers l3 as the game progresses.
In Figs. 5 to 8, inclusive, an alternate form of the improved board is illustrated. This form embodies the same structural features as the preceding form in a slightly different arrangement.
The alternate form employs a front board 23, a back board 26, and, if desired, a back cover sheet 25. The top board 23 and the back board it are cemented, stapled, stitched, or otherwise secured together adjacent their peripheral edges, as in the preceding form. The back cover sheet, if used, is pasted over the entire back surface of the back board 24.
The front board 23 contains a plurality of spaced-apart, rectangularly-arranged, square number openings 26 having receiving notches 21 formed at their lower left-hand comers. The back board 24 carries a plurality of game numbers 28 similar to the numbers l3 of the previous form. A relatively narrow, horizontal guide slot 29 is formed in the back board below each of the numbers thereon.
A number slide member 30 is positioned between the front and back boards for each of the number openings. The number slide members 30 ar illustrated more in detail in Figs. 7 and 8, and each is provided with a forwardly-projecting finger post 3| adjacent the lower right-hand corner thereof. A lower offset portion 32 is formed on the lower edge of each slide member which projects outwardly from the right edge and inwardly from the left edg to form a projecting tab 33 and a notch 34, respectively.
A guide flange 35 extends along the back of the tab 33 and along the back of the offset portion 32 to a point approximately in alignment with the vertical center line of the slide 30. The height of the guide flanges is less than the thickness of the back board so that they will not project from the back of the latter.
When the slides 30 are in position in the improved board, the guide flanges 35 will extend rearwardly into the guide slots 29 in the back board, and when the slides are moved to the left, the finger posts will enter the notches 21 in the front board. The backs of the number slides are provided with two parallel spacing ridges 33 which act to space the slides above the surface of the back board so as to prevent frictional engagement with and damage to the numbers 38.
The back cover sheet 25 is not a necessary element. It does, however, conceal the slots in the back board and dresses up the appearance of the entire board.
The offset portion 32 with its tab 33 and the notch 34 are so arranged that its adjacent slide members 30 may be brought together at the edge of each opening, as shown in the upper left of Fig. 5, the tab 33 entering the notch 34 of the adjacent slide member. This enables the openings 23 to be placed relatively close together so as to minimize the total width of the board.
While a specific form of the improvement has been described and illustrated herein, it is to be understood that the same may be varied, within the scope of the appended claims, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed and desired secured by Letters Patent is:
1. A game board comprising: a main board having rows of rectangular number openings; a backing board secured to the back of said main board about the peripheries of both; horizontally extending slots formed in said main board, there being a slot above and below each number opening; a slide for each number opening; outwardly projecting guide ridges on said slides slidably engaged in said slots; finger tabs formed on said slides and projecting outwardly through the number openings in the main board, the height of said guide ridges being less than the thickness of the main board so that they will not project through the latter; and a front cover sheet having openings registering with the openings in said main board and secured over the latter. said cover sheet covering and concealing said slots and said guide ridges.
2. A number slide for game boards of the Bingo type comprising: a fiat, rectangular, number-covering portion; upwardly extending ridges formed on and extending lengthwise of and along the opposite sides of said number-covering portion in parallel relation; and a finger tab projecting upwardly from one end of said numbercovering portion in a plane at right angles to the plane of said number-covering portion.
3. A number slide for game boards of the Bingo type comprising: a flat, rectangular, number-covering portion; upwardly extending ridges formed on and extending lengthwise of and along the opposite sides of said number-covering portion in parallel relation; a finger tab projecting upwardly from one end of said number-covering portion; and a side flange projecting outwardly from the base of each of said ridges in a plane parallel to the plane of said numbercovering portion.
4. A number slide for game boards as described in claim 3 in which the ridges are of less length than said number-covering portion and extend from the end of said number-covering portion adjacent said finger tab toward the opposite end of said portion and terminate intermediate the extremities of said portion, and having slots formed in said number-covering portion in alignment with, and extending from, said ridges to said opposite end.
5. A number slide for game boards as described in claim 3 in which the plane of the side flanges is positioned downwardly of the plane of the number-covering portion.
6-. A game board comprising: a front sheet having rows of rectangular openings; a main board having corresponding rectangular openings; a backing board mounted over the back of said front board and having numbers registering with the openings in said main board; a guide slot in said main board above and below each number; a slide member slidably positioned between said main and back boards adjacent each number and positioned to be slid across the openings in the main board; a guide ridge projecting from each slide member into one of the slots in said back board; and means projecting from each slide through the openings in said front sheet and said main board to be engaged by the finger of the user for actuating said slide, said front sheet covering and concealing said guide ridges and said slots.
7. A game board as described in claim 6 having side flanges formed on and projecting from each slide member into engagement with said back board and acting to hold the latter out of contact with said slide member.
