STOCKING CLAMPING GARTER Filed NOV. 30, 1954 BY l ATTORNEY United States Patent O STOCKING CLAMPIN G GARTER Ernest E. Rosecrans, Sr., Los Angeles, Calif. Application November 30, 1954, Serial No. 471,968
3 Claims. (Cl. 2-312) This invention relates to a stocking clamping garter.
An object of this invention is to provide an eficient device for holding stockings particularly of the womens type in place on the leg, preventing the stocking from creeping or wrinkling.
Another object of this invention is to provide a stocking clamping garter with a substance that will cause the garter to cling to the skin, and to reinforce the said substance in an eiiicient manner, together with efficient means for attaching a stocking to the reinforcement, all of which produces a very etlicient stocking clamping garter.
A further object of the invention is to provide a garter which will stretch or expand when the knee bends and recedes when it is straightened, thus taking the pressure from the garter.
With the foregoing and other objects in View, this invention comprises certain novel constructions, combinations, and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of a stocking clamping garter constructed in accordance with the present invention, shown in position upon a leg.
Figure 2 is an enlarged top plan view of said garter.
Figure 3 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional view taken on lines 3 3, Fig. 1, and looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 4 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional View taken on line 4 4, Fig. 2, and looking in the direction of the arrows.
Figure 5 is a perspective view of the foam rubber band and its associated parts.
Figure 6 is a perspective view of the garter ribbon of the garter.
Figure 7 is a fragmentary top plan view of another embodiment of the present invention.
Referring to the drawings by numerals, 1 designates a foam rubber band on the outer side of which is an elastic fiber band 2, secured to the foam rubber band 1 by means of stitching 3 at the top and bottom thereof, Fig. 4.
Suitably attached to the outer face of the elastic ber band are studs or knobs 4; the securing means used is preferably stitching 5.
Around the elastic fiber band I place a garter ribbon band 6, which produces a very attractive and ornamental finish to the entire garter. On this garter ribbon band 6 I secure eyelets 7; these eyelets are placed longitudinally on the inner face of said garter ribbon, for the purpose hereinafter described.
. 2,729,825 Patented Jan. 10, 1956 ICC In operation, the foam rubber band with its elastic fiber band 2 attached thereto is drawn upon the leg to the desired position, then the stocking 8 is drawn up so that its top edge or portion is placed over the studs or knobs 4, Figs. 3 and 4, whereupon the garter ribbon band 6 is brought up into position, and by a rotary movement imparted to said garter ribbon band said eyelets will ride upon said studs and be seated thereon, whereby the stocking is held in a very substantial manner upon the leg of the wearer.
In Figure 7 I have shown the foam rubber element in the form of three pieces 9. These pieces could be placed manually around the leg, and the stocking could be placed over these pieces in the same manner specifically described for the preferred embodiment shown in Figures 1 to 6. Of course, it is understood that the studs 4 would be placed in a suitable manner upon the foam pieces 9, these obvious details of the preferred embodiment not being shown in Figure 7.
It is to be understood that this invention reduces stocking runs to a minimum which is a feature of economy.
While I have described the preferred embodiment of the invention and illustrated the same in the accompanying drawings, certain minor changes or alterations may appear to one skilled in the art to which this invention relates during the extensive manufacture of the same, and I, therefore, reserve the right to make such changes or alternations as shall fairly fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is:
l. In a stocking clamping garter, the combination of a foam rubber band, an elastic ber band secured to said foam rubber band, studs secured to said elastic fiber band, a garter band around said elastic liber band, and said garter band provided with longitudinally-extending eyelets fitting over said studs.
2. In a stocking clamping garter, the combination of a foam rubber band, an elastic liber band sewed at its top and bottom edges to said foam rubber band, studs secured to the outer face of said elastic band, a garter band around said elastic liber band, horizontally-positioned eyelets on the inner face of said garter band and secured thereto, and said eyelets tting by a rotary movement of said garter band upon said studs, substantially as shown and described. Y
3. As a new article of manufacture, a stocking clamping device, comprising a foam rubber band, an elastic ber band surrounding said foam rubber band, stitching at the top and bottom of said bands permanently securing both bands together, studs secured to said tiber band and extending outwardly therefrom, a garter ribbon band surrounds said fiber band, and said garter ribbon band being provided on its inner face with longitudinally-positioned eyelets, whereby when rotary movement is imparted to said garter ribbon band said eyelets will ride upon said studs and be seated thereon, substantially as shown and described.
