3 Claims. (Cl. 312285) This invention relates to card tables having extendible shelves associated therewith for conveniently supporting beverages, and the like, the card table being of the vertically collapsible type.

The primary object of the present invention resides in the provision of a card table having suitable shelves which can be utilized for supporting beverages, and the like, in a convenient manner without interfering with the playing surface.

A further object of the present invention resides in the mounting of supporting shelves in such manner so as to allow them to be rotated from a position perpendicular to one of the sides of the table to a position perpendicular to an adjacent side of the table.

Still another object of the invention resides in the provision of means for incorporating drawers with the table with the drawers being slidable inwardly of the table so as to permit the legs to be folded.

One of the particular features of the invention resides in the combination of spring clips mounted on the retaining guides for the drawers which are adapted to hold the shelves inwardly of slots formed in the peripheral flange attached to the table top.

Still further objects and features of this invention reside in the provision of a card table that is strong and durable, highly attractive in appearance, comparatively simple in construction and manufacture, and which is capable of being folded to small compass for ready storage when not muse.

These, together with the various ancillary objects and features of the invention which will become apparent as the following description proceeds, are attained by this card table, a preferred embodiment of which has been illustrated in the accompanying drawings, by way of example only, wherein:

Figure 1 is a perspective view of the card table comprising the present invention;

Figure 2 is a bottom plan view of this card table;

Figure 3 is an enlarged vertical sectional view as taken along the plane of line 33 in Figure 2, illustrating the construction of the shelve mounting bars in detail;

Figure 4 is a vertical sectional view as taken along the plane of line 4-4 in Figure 2, illustrating the construction of the drawer retaining guides;

Figure 5 is an enlarged vertical sectional view as taken along the plane of line 55 in Figure 2, illustrating the means provided for holding the shelves inwardly of the card table and further disclosing the construction of the arcuate stop members which form fulcrums for rotation of the shelves;

Figure 6 is a perspective view of one of the shelves; and

Figure 7 is a perspective view of one of the drawers.

With continuing reference to accompanying drawings wherein like reference numerals designate similar parts throughout the various views, reference numeral 10 generally designates the card table comprising the present invention. This card table is constructed from a table top 12 formed of any suitable material which may be finished in any manner as may be desired. Secured to the table top 12 and downwardly extending therefrom is a peripheral flange 14. A plurality of legs 16 are hingedly secured to the flange 14 and are adapted to be folded so as to lie substantially parallel with the sides of the table defined by the flange 14 and adjacent to the flange 14.

Formed in the flange 14 are a plurality of substantially rectangular apertures 18. Secured to the underside of the table top 12 are a plurality of drawer retaining guides 29 which, as can be seen best in Figure 4, are of substantially L-shape in cross section and are held in position by suitable fasteners such as screws 22. Drawers 24 are adapted to be slidably mounted and suspended from the guides 20 with the drawers 24 being provided with grooves 26 for reception of the guides 20.

It is to be noted that the drawers 24 are of such size as to permit the drawers 24 to be slid inwardly of the apertures 18 so that the legs 16 may be folded. Further, the guides 2% provide a seat for the legs 16 so that the undersurface of the legs 16 when folded will lie substantially flush with the undersurface of the flange 14, or inwardly thereof.

Each of the drawers 24 have pivotally mounted thereon handles 28 which may be rotated downwardly of the position as is shown in Figures 1 and 7 when it is desired to prevent the drawers 24 from being pushed inwardly of the position where the handle 28 is inwardly of the flange 14. However, when it is desired to fold the legs 16, these handles 28 may be rotated so that the drawers 24 can be pushed inwardly of the apertures 18. Then, the handles 28 can be again rotated downwardly so as to prevent the drawers from sliding outwardly of the apertures when the table 10 is tilted during folding operations on the legs 16.

Slots 3% are formed in the corners of the table 10 and serving shelves 32 are adapted to be slidably mounted so as to extend through the slots 31 The shelves 32 have isosceles triangular shaped end portions as at 34 and are provided with openings as at 36 and 38 therethrough for reception of suitable beverage tumblers or containers, and the like. Substantially L-shaped shelve retaining bars 40 are aflixed to the under side of the table top 12, as by screws 42 or other suitable fastening means and the flange portions 44 of these bars 46 hold the shelves 32 so that the shelves 32 are slidably inwardly so that the outer edges 46 of the end portions 34 of the trays 32 can lie flush with the outer surface of the flange 14.

Aflixed to the shelves 32 are arcuate stop members 48 which not only prevent the shelves 32 from being withdrawn completely out from the table 10 but act as fulcrums so that the trays 32 may be rotated from the position as is shown in the solid lines in Figure l to the position shown by the dotted lines in Figure 1, This enables the shelves 32 to be rotated to a position most convenient and comfortable for an individual sitting at and utilizing the table 10. This ability to rotate the shelves 32 is achievable due to the right isosceles triangular shaped end portions 34 of the shelves 32.

Aflixed to the junctures of the various drawer retaining guides 20 are spring clips 50. The drawer retaining guides 20 serve as means to space one end of the clips 50 from the table top 12 so as to permit the shelves 32 to be resiliently held in an inward position, the isosceles right triangular shaped end portions 32 abutting against the right angular intersections of the drawer retaining guides 20. These clips 50 resiliently hold the shelves 32 in the inner position and the drawer retaining guides 20 limit the innermost position of the shelves 32 so that the outer 3 edge 46 of the shelves 32 lie flush with the outer surface of the flange 14 thereby providing a more ornamental appearance for the card table '10.

Whatisclaimedasnew is as follows:

1. A card table comprising a substantially square table top, a downwardly extendingperipheral flange secured to table top vand defining the four sides and four corners card table, legs pivotally attached to said flange ad aeemme ceriiers of said card table and adapted to be foldedlplirallel with and adjacent-to said flange, said flange having slots therein at the corners of said table, shelf mountin bars secured to said table top in alignment with said slots, and shelves slidably mounted on said bars, said shelves Having end portions of isosceles right triangular shape; and arcuate stop members aflixed to said shelves engageabie' with said flange forming fulcrums for selective rotation of said shelveslperpendicular to either of two adjacent sides of said card table. a

A card table comprising a substantially square table top, a downwardly extending peripheral flange secured to said tabletop and defining'the four sides and four corners of said card table, legs pivotally attached to said flange adjacent the corners ofsaid card table and adapted to be folded parallel'with and adjacent to said flange, said flange having apertirres therein centrally disposed along the sides of said table, drawer retaining guides depending from said table top in alignment with said apertures, drawers slidably" mounted on said guides and adapted to extend through said apertures, said drawers sliding inwardly of said flange to permit said legs to be folded, said flange having slots therein at the corners of said table, shelf mounting bars secured to said table top in alignment with said slots, and shelves slidably mounted on said bars, said shelves having end portions of isosceles right triangular shape, and arcuate stop members aflixed to said shelves engageable with said flange forming fulcrums for selective rotation of said shelves perpendicular to either of two adjacent side's ofsaid card table, clips secured to said guides spacing said clips from said table top, said clips being adapted to resiliently hold said shelves inwardly of said slots with the outer edges of the shelves lying flush with the outer surface of said flange.

3. A card table comprising a substantially square table top, a downwardly extending peripheral flange secured to said table top and defining the four sides and four corners of said card table, legs pivotally attached to said flange adjacent the corners of said card table and adapted to be folded parallel with and adjacent to said flange, said flange having slots therein at the corners of said table, shelf mounting bars secured to said table top in alignmentwith said slots; and shelves slidably mounted on said bars, said' shelves having end portions of isosceles right triangular shape, and arcuate stop members aflixed to saidshelve's engageable with said flange forming fulcrums for selective rotation of said shelves perpendicular to' either of two adjacent sides of said card table, and

means for holdingsaid shelves inwardly of said slots with the outer edges'of' said-shelves lying flush with the outer surface of said flange.
