Description
Oct. l, 1957 y G. W.- MACK BACK WIPING RUBBING 0R MASSAGING DEVICE Filed sept. 1o, 1954 ATTORNEYS United States Patent O BACK WIPING, RUBBING, OR MASSAGING DEVICE George W. Mack, Merchantville, N. J.
Application September 10, 1954, Serial No. 455,180
1 Claim. (Cl. 15--118) This invention relates to a back or body massaging device, the primary object of the invention being to provide a device of this character which is constructed of a strip of material having holding means at the ends thereof to be gripped by the operator, to the end that the massaging device may be used in massaging the back of the body of a person by using the device in the nature of a towel.
An important object of the invention is to provide a device of this character constructed preferably of synthetic rubber, one surface thereof being formed with transversely disposed spaced ribs constituting the massaging .surface of the device.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which may be used as a holder to which a wash strip of cloth material may .be positioned, tabs being provided at the ends of the Wash strip for removably securing the wash strip to the holder or body portion of the massaging device.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claim, it being understood that changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of the invention as claimed.
Referring to the drawing,
Figure l is a perspective view of a massaging device constructed in accordance with the invention, and illustrating the ribs formed on one side of the device.
Figure 2 is a perspective View of a cloth Washing strip, illustrating the securing t-abs at the ends thereof.
Figure 3 is a longitudinal sectional view through the massaging device.
Figure 4 is a sectional View taken on line 4 4 of Figure 3 and illustrating the strip of cloth material as secured to the main section of the massaging device.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the massaging device comprises a main section 5 which is in the formrof a length or strip of synthetic rubber.
Patented Oct. 1, 1957 ICC Formed integral with the main section and extending from one side thereof are spaced ribs 6 which provide a massaging or rubbing surface. Formed at the ends of the main section 5 are loops 7 which provide hand holds so that the device may be gripped at its ends when the device is used in rubbing or massaging the back, the device being used in the nature of a towel in wiping the back.
The reference character 8 indicates the strip of cloth material, which is of a length to extend throughout the length of the main section 5, there being provided tabs 9 extending from the ends of the strip of cloth material, the tabs 9 being formed with openings 10 adapted to be extended through the loops 7 and positioned over the buttons 11, the intermediate portion of the cloth strip overlying the surfaces of the ribs 6, providing an eiective means for massaging or rubbing the back or body of the person using the device.
It will of course Vbe understood that the cloth strip may be readily removed should it be desired `to use the device solely as a massaging means.
While I have shown and described the cloth strip as positioned over the ribs 6, it is to be understood that the cloth strip may be used on the other side of the main section by merely folding the tabs 9 inwardly and positioning them over the buttons 11 on the smooth side of the main section of the device.
In view of the foregoing, it is believed that a further description of the construction and use of the device will be unnecessary.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed is:
In a body massaging and cleaning device, a main section comprising a strip of rubber material, transversely disposed ribs formed on one surface only of said main section, providing a :substantially smooth surface forming one side of said main section and a roughened massaging surface forming the other side thereof, holding loops at the ends of said main section providing means for gripping and manipulating said device over the body and massaging `the body, buttons secured to the smooth surface of said main section adjacent to said holding loops, a cloth wiping strip having reduced elongated ends formed with openings elongated longitudinally of said reduced elongated ends, the reduced ends of said cloth strip extending through said loops and said elongated openings adapted to be positioned over the buttons, securing said cloth strip to the main section.
