This invention relates to folding carpet rockers or rocking-chairs; and it consists in the combination, with the rockers and rear legs of such chairs, of an adjustable fastening device composed of a slotted and notched link or elbow, as hereinafter more fully described and claimed.

In the annexed drawings illustrating the invention, Figure 1 is a sectional side view of my improved folding rocker, showing the parts extended or arranged for use. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the chair partly folded, the carpet or canvas strips forming the seat and back being removed. Fig. 3 is a sectional view of the chair-frame folded for transportation or storage, and Fig. 4 is a perspective detail View illustrating the connection of the rockers and rear legs.

To the side pieces B B are pivoted the inner side pieces, 0- O, the rear ends of which rest on therockers A A when the chair is unfolded, and thus constitute the rear legs.

The chair-seat D consists of a strip of carpet, canvas, or other flexible material, the forward end of which is secured to a round or cross-bar, cl, that connects the upper and forward ends of the side pieces 0 C, while the rear end of said strip is attached to a cross-bar, e, that connects the side pieces B B. These side pieces B B are also connected above the seat by crossbarsf 9, that form a support for a strip of carpet, canvas, or other material composing the back of the chair.

If desired, additional support may be given to the canvas or carpet back by means of bars h h, extending between the transverse bars f g, as shown in Fig. 1.

In order to securely connect the rear legs 0 to the rockers in such a manner as to allow for necessary adjustment and take up the slack of the flexible seat, an adj ustable-fastening, E, is provided. This fastening consists of a metallic link or elbow, formed as shown, its short arm 6 being pivoted to the inner side of the rear leg 0, while its long arm k is provided with a slot, m, for the passage of a headed pin, 19, by which it is adjustably connected to the inner side of the rocker. In the lower edge of the link or elbow E, near its bend, are a series of notches, s s, for engagement with a pin, t, on the inner side of the rocker. When the chair is unfolded or extended, as shown in Fig. 1, the pin t enters one of the notches s, and the rockers and rear legs can then be se curely fastened by turning a button, 0, Fig..

4., attached to said rocker, so as to bear on the upper edge ofthe link E and prevent it from moving. By turning back the button 1), the

legs 0 O can be raised by means of the round 0, so as to disengage the pin it and notch s, when the links E E can be moved forward or back, as required, to give the necessary adjust-ment to the flexible seat, after which the links E E and legs 0 O can be again lowered and parts secured, as before described.

The chair can be folded for transportation or storage by turning back the button 1) and disengaging the pins t and notched links E, so that the pieces 0 and links E may be raised to the vertical position shown in Fig. 2, thus allowing the side pieces, B and O, to be folded back on the rockers, as shown in Fig. 3.

Having thusdescribed my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
