Description
April 3, 1962 w. I. LITTMAN COMBINATION MONEY CLIP AND CHANGE BOX Filed June 29, 1961 INVENTOR. W/LL/AM Z. Z/rm/A/v BY United States Patent 3,027,995 COMBINATION MONEY CLIP AND CHANGE BOX William I. Littman, MD14, New Windsor, Newburgh, N.Y. Filed June 29, 1961, Ser. No. 120,550 3 Claims. (Cl. 206-38) This invention relates to a combination money clip and change box and has as its primary object the provision of a single article incorporating both these elements.
An additional object of the invention is the provision of an article of this character which may be manufactured from a single unitary blank of spring steel with a minimum of effort and difficulty.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character which may be readily opened, and which due to the resiliency of the metal, will be self closing, and will retain its closed position.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a device of this character which is sturdy and durable in construction, reliable and efficient in operation, and which may be simply and inexpensively manufactured.
Still other objects reside in the combinations of elements, arrangements of parts, and features of construction, all as will be more fully pointed out hereinafter and disclosed in the accompanying drawing wherein there is shown a preferred embodiment of this inventive concept.
in the drawing:
FIGURE 1 is a perspective view of one form of device embodying the instant invention.
FIGURE 2 is a rear elevational view of the device of FIG. 1.
FIGURE 3 is an end elevational view of the device, certain portions being shown in dotted lines in a different position of adjustment.
FIGURE 4 is a sectional view taken substantially along the line 44 of FIG. 2 as viewed in the direction indicated by the arrows.
FIGURE 5 is atop plan view of the device; and
FIGURE 6 is a plan view, on a reduced scale, of the metal blank from which the article is made.
Similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views of the drawing.
Having reference now to the drawing in detail, the device of the instant invention is generally indicated at 10, and includes a rear wall portion ill from one end of which extends a tongue or clip portion generally indicated at 12. The tongue includes a reverted or bent top portion 13 and an oifset member 14 which terminates in an inwardly inclined portion 15 and a flat resilient portion 16 which closely engages the rear wall 11. An outwardly flared end or lip 17 facilitates the use of the device as a money clip wherein folded bills are inserted beneath the portion 17 and under the part 16 and held, by the resiliency of the metal against the rear wall 11. Side walls 13 are integrally formed along the sides of rear wall ll.
At the end opposite tongue 12 there is formed a bend 20, from which extends a front wall 21 coextensive with the rear Wall 12 and which terminates in an inwardly extending top portion 22. Side walls 23 are formed on the front wall portion and overlie the side walls 18 of the rear wall portion. A finger engaging portion 24 is struck from the material of the top portion 22 and extends upwardly therefrom, so that when engaged by a finger the front and rear walls may be separated as indicated in dotted lines in FIG. 3 to provide a compartment for the containing of small change.
The device is made from a single blank of spring steel as shown in FIG. 6 wherein the component parts are 7 3,27,995 Patented Apr. 3, 1962 "ice portion 2%} serves to hold the front and rear wall portions in normally closed position, and serves to reclose the parts after opening.
After the fabrication of the device it is adapted to be heat treated, and then tumbled and either chrome plated or plated with other ornamental metal.
From the foregoing it will now be seen that there is herein provided an improved combination money clip and small change box which accomplishes all the objects of this invention, and others, including many advantages of great practical utility.
As many embodiments may be made of this inventive concept, and as many modifications may be made in the embodiment hereinbefore shown and described, it is to be understood that all matter herein is to be interpreted merely as illustrative, and not in a limiting sense.
I claim:
1. In a combination coin box and money clip, the combination of a rear wall portion, side walls integrally formed therewith, a reverted spring tongue extending from one end thereof and lying closely adjacent the outer face of said rear wall to grip currency between the same and said rear wall, a front wall resiliently connected to said rear wall at the end opposite said tongue and spaced therefrom, side walls on said front wall overlying said first-mentioned side wall, and an end wall integrally formed with said front wall at the end opposite the resilient connection, said rear wall, side walls thereof, said spaced front wall, side walls and end wall thereof, and said resilient connection defining a compartment for containing coins.
2. in a combination coin box and money clip, the combination of a rear wall portion, side walls integrally formed therewith, a reverted spring tongue extending from one end thereof and lying closely adjacent the outer face of said rear wall to grip currency between the same and said rear wall, a front wall resiliently connected to said rear wall at the end opposite said tongue in spaced parallel relation thereto, side walls on said front wall overlying said first-mentioned side wall, and an end wall integrally formed with said front wall at the end opposite the resilient connection, said rear wall, side walls thereof, said spaced parallel front wall, side walls and an end wall thereof, and said resilient connection defining a compartment for containing coins, said combination coin box and money clip being formed from a single blank of spring steel.
3. In a combination coin box and money clip, the combination of a rear wall portion, side walls integrally formed therewith, a reverted spring tongue extending from one end thereof and lying closely adjacent the outer face of said rear wall to grip currency between the same and said rear wall, a front wall resiliently connected to said rear wall at the end opposite said tongue in spaced parallel relation thereto, side walls on said front wall overlying said first-mentioned side wall, an end wall integrally formed with said front wall at the end opposite the resilient connection, said rear wall, side walls thereof, said spaced parallel front wall, side walls and end wall thereof and said resilient connection defining a compartment for containing coins, said combination coin box and money clip being formed from a single blank of spring steel, and a finger engaging projection formed on and perpendicular to said end wall.
