SNAP- HOOK SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Fatemi'. No. 315,796, dated April 14, 1885.
Application filed February 18, 1885. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JAMES B. KEEEE, a citizen ofthe United States, and aresident of Delaware, in the county of Delaware and State of Ohio,have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Snap-Hooks; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of lthis specification, and in whichy Figure 1 is a perspective View of my improved snap-hook. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is a view of the under side of the hook, and Fig. 4 is a sectional View on line x a: in Fig. 2.

My invention has relation to snap -hools for use on bridles and harness generally, or for other purposes where this kind of hooks may be advantageously employed; and it consist-s in the detailed construction and combination of parts of the improved snap-hook, which will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, A denotes the shank of the hook, B the hook proper, and C the loop or eye for the attachment of the hook to the strap shown at D. At that point where the shank connects with the hook proper is a swell or enlargement, E, which has a slot, F. Fastened to the under side of the shank near the loop C is a nat spring, G, of steel or other suitable material, which has a projection or finger-piece, H, on one side, and a curved finger, I, on top,which projects up through the slot F, and bears with its upper end. against the inner side of the hook B, which, if desired, may be recessed to receive the nger I, as shown in Fig. t at b. In order to use the snap, the ring shown at K is simply slipped over the point of thc hook, and then pressed against the outside of the curved nger'I, which forces the finger down through the slot F, so as to permit the ring to pass into the eye J, as shown in the drawings, when the linger will spring back again into its normal or closed position.
In order to release the ring from the hook, all that is necessary is to depress spring G by pressing upon its finger-piece H, as indicated by dotted lines in Fig. 2, when the ring may readily be slipped out of the hook.
Having thus described my invention,I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States- The combination of the hook A B, having the slotted swell or enlargement E, and spring G, attached to the under side of the hook, and provided with the curved finger I, projecting through slot F, and having the laterally-projecting finger-piece H, the finger and fingerpiece being integral portions of the spring, substantially as and for the purpose herein shown and described.
