UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES B. DICKINSON, OF BROOKLYN, NEWV YORK.
VAGlNAL-SYRINGE TIP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 354,309, dated December 14-, 1856.
(No model.)
To CLZZ whom it may concern/.-
Be it known that 1, CHARLES B. Dionne SON, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Vaginal-Syringe Tip, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention consists of a vaginal syringe tip constructed as hereinafter described and claimed.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is anenlarged sectional elevation of my new and improved syringe-tip. Fig. 2 shows the tip formed with a retainingplate and applied to a syringe bulb and tube, and Fig. 3 is an end view of the tip formed with the retaining-plate.
The syringe tip A. is made of soft rubber, with a screw'thrcaded socket, B, of hard rubher or metal, the tip being of gradually-diminishing stiifness from the socket B to the rounded end. d of the tip, which is of comparatively thin rubber, so it will yield to slight pressure.
In forming the tip I place upon the socket B a short tube, 0, of soft rubber. Over this I fit a longer and larger tube, D, and over this I fit another still larger and longer tube, E, and, finally, overthe whole I fit the outer closed tube, F, of soft rubber, which is longer than the tube E, and forms the closed rounded and flexible end (1. Numerous perforations, a, are
formed in the rounded end d, for the escape of liquid. The screw-threaded socket B is for attaching the tip to the pipef of the syringe bulb J for use, and in some instances, where it may be desired to retain the liquid in the vagina, I form or provide the lower end of the tip A with the curved retaining-plate H, as shown in Figs. 2 and 3.
By making the tip of soft rubber, and with a soft and flexible end, 07, there will be no danger of injury to the parts in the use of the tip, as it will bend and yield to any excess of pressure; and by making the tip to gradually dimi nish in thickness of material around the central passage through the tip the same is sufficient] y rigidto enable it to be easily inserted, and yet not render the lip so stiff that injury can come from its use.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secureby Letters Patent, is-
The tip A, having the socket B, and composed of tubes of soft rubber of different sizes and lengths placed upon the socket and upon each other, and the whole surrounded by the outer closed tube, F, of soft rubber, having the perforations a, substantially as described.
CHARLES E. DICKINSON.
