To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, MATTHEW D. FOWLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at East Fishkill, in the county of Dutchess and State of New York, have invented certain and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention consists of acombined metal and rubber ink-eraser for attachment to a pen, in which a single piece of metal is constructed with a sharp blade on one side and flanges to hold securely a piece of rubber on the other side, and with a cap to fit over the end of the pen-holder; and the objects of my invention are, first, to provide a combined metal and rubber ink-eraser that will fit over the end of a pen-holder so as to be always in place and ready for use; second, to construct this combined eraser so that the rubber portion may be readily removed when Worn and replaced by a new rubber, and, third, to place the metal eraser and the rubber in a convenient position in relation to each other, preferably with the rubber opposite the blade. I attain these objects by the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is an enlarged perspective view of my combined ink-eraser, shown in position upon the end of a pen-holder. Fig. 2 is a cross-section of the same, better showing the arrangement of the blade, flanges, and rubber; and Fig. 3 is a small perspective view of my device, showing pen-holder or pencil with my ink-eraser attached ready for use.

Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.

A represents a spring flange cap of the usual description for attaching my device to a pen-holder.

B represents the pen-holder; C, the eraser. blade; and a a, flanges at the back of the ing the base of the blade may be less than is shown in the drawings without changing the character of my invention. My eraser might also be made with a handle for desk use, instead of a cap for attaching to a pen-holder. It is evident also that a supplementary cap may be used to cover both blade and rubber,

if it should be desired to adapt my device to pocket use; but a cover or cap of that sort is so common a device that it is not shown in the drawings as an essential or novel part of my invention, which consists in the hereinbefore described combination of a metal and rubber ink-eraser for the convenient use of penmen.

What Iclaim, therefore, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. An ink-eraser consisting of a piece of metal adapted to be applied to a pen or pencil, and haying on one side an erasing-blade and on the other side flanges containing arubber eraser, as described.

2. An ink-eraser having at one end a cap for attaching to a pen-holder and at the other end a combined metal and rubber ink-eraser, as and for the purpose specified.

3. An ink-eraser consisting of a cap A, an erasing-blade O, flanges a, and the rubber D, for convenient attachment to a pen-holder, substantially as described.
