N. OOSMAN.
DOOR SECURER.
No. 462,903. Patented May 26, 1891.
UNITED STATES PATENT ()FFICE.
NATHAN COSMAN, FREMONT, \VASHINGTON.
DOOR-SECURER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 452,903, dated May 26, 1891.
Application filed February 24, 1891- Serial No. 382,555- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, NATHAN OosMAN. a citizen of the United States, residing at Fremont, in the county of King and State of Washington, have invented a new and useful Door- Securer, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to improvements in door-seeurers.
The object of the present invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive door-securer adapted to be readily applied to a door,
and capable of automatically looking at the closing of the door and of being readily unfastened to release the door.
The invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claims hereto appended.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a door-securer constructed in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional view showing the device applied to a door.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, 1 designates a door-securer consisting of a single piece of metal and constructed, preferably, of spring-steel, and comprising a shank 2, provided atone end with a projection or point 3 to engage the casing of the door and prevent the withdrawal of the shank 2, which is arranged in the space between the door and the casing. The projection 3 is formed by bending the end of the shank at right angles to the length of the same, and the other end of the shank has formed integral with it a spring 4, which is curved and returned upon the shank and provided with a head 6, arranged in an opening 7 of the shank and pro jeeting beyond the latter and adapted to engage the face of the door to prevent the latter opening. The head 6 is beveled at 8 to permit the door in closing to depress the spring l and pass the head, and the spring normally holds the head in position to engage the door and prevent the lattera opening. When the head 6 is in its normal position, a straight edge 9 is arranged in the opening and is adapted to engage the shank to prevent the door forcing the spring away from the shank.
It will be seen that the door-securer is simple and inexpensive in construction and is adapted to be readily applied to aldoor, and is capable of securely locking the same, and of readily releasing the door when desired. The door-securer operates as a spring-catch and permits the door to close and become locked.
The head 0 is provided with a shoulder or heel 10, which prevents the head being forced entirely through the slot.
What I claim is- 1. A door-securer constructed of a single piece of metal, and comprising a shank adapted to be arranged between a door and its casin g and engage the latter and provided with an opening, and the spring formed integral with the shank and provided with a head arranged in the opening and adapted to engage the door, substantially as described.
2. A door-securer comprising the shank provided at one end with a projection to engage the door-casing, and the spring formed integral with the shank and provided with a head having a beveled nose and provided with a straight edge 9, and having a heel or shoulder at the inner end of the straight edge and adapted to engage a door, substantially as described.
3. A door-securer comprising the shank provided at one end with the projection and having an opening, the spring formed integral with the shank, being curved and extending along the same, and the head arranged in the opening and formed integral with the spring and provided wit-h a beveled nose, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto aflixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
NATHAN OOSMAN.
Witnesses:
