To all whom t may concern:

Be it known that l, WALTER WATSON, of Fayetteville, in the county of Cumberland and State of North Carolina, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Turpentine-Tools of which thefollowing is a specification.

This invention relates generally to turpentine tools, and particularly to a combination tool, the objectk of the invention being to provide a double hacker and pullerlin a single instrument, whereby time, labor, material and money are saved, and with this object in view my invention consists in the peculiar construction of the several parts, and their novel combination and arrangement, all of which will be fully described hereinafter, and pointed out in the claims.

In carrying out my invention I employ a shank A and blade B. The shank A is pro- `vided with the usual stud a at its lower end,

and in its body is produced au aperture a to permit attachment" to a handle, as shown and described in my prior Patent No. 327,207, dated September 29, 1885. The upper end of the shank is formed with a dat rectangular head or plate A', and at the juncture ot the head and shank is produced a transverse seat A2, said seat being provided with a retaining flange A3, thus producing a groove between the flange and head which is adapted to receive the blade B, said blade resting upon the seat as clearly shown. A transverse rib A4 is formed at the upper endof the head, and it will be observed that the blade is secured upon the head between the seat and rib by means of a bolt b passed centrally through the head and plate. vThe blade B has its upper and lower edges sharpened as shown at a great deal of the strain applied to the blade, thus relieving the bolt, keeping the blade straight, and dispensing with a number of bolts which weaken the contrivance.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to`secure by Letters Patent, is-

l. As an improved article aoombined hacl er and puller consisting of a dat blade having its ends curved or bent toward each other, said blade being attached to a shank or handle substantially as shown and described.

2. As an improved article, a puller blade, having sharp edges and ends said ends being bent to provide hackers at each end substantially as shown aud described.

3. The combination with a shank, of a blade secured thereto having sharp upper and lower edges, and ends, the ends being bent to provide hackers and pullers, substantially as shown and described.

4. The combination with a shank, having a head, and a seat at the juncture of said head and shank, of a blade secured to the head and resting upon the seat, said blade having sharp upper and lower edges and ends, which ends are bent substantially as and for the pupose described.

5. The combination with a shank having a head, a seat and retaining ange, of a blade secured to the head resting upon the seat and behind the flange, said blade having sharp upper and lower edges and ends said ends being curved substantially as and for the purpose described.

- 6. The combination with a shank of the head arranged thereon, the seat at the lower endof the head and the transverse rib at the upper end of the head, and the detachable reversible blade secured to the head between the seatand rib, said blade having sharp upper and lower edges and edged rounded ends, said ends being bent substantially as shown and for the purpose described. y

7. A blade having sharpened upper and lower edges, and sharpened and rounded ends said ends being bent back toward each other substantially as shown and described.
