Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SAMUEL J. SHAW', OF MARLBOROIIGI'I, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR T0 HIM- SELF, THOMAS UOREY, AND WM. E. C. ICRC ISTER, 0F SAME PLACE; SAID IVHCESTER ASSIGNS TO SAID SHAW HIS RIGHT.
IMPROVED EYELETTED BRACE.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent` No. 58,954, dated October 16, 1866.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, SAMUEL J. SHAW, et' Marlborough, in the county of Middlesex and State of hlassachnsetts, have invented a new and useful or Improved Eyeletted Brace or Stay for the Laeing-Holes of Shoes, Corsets, or various other articles; and I do hereby declare the same to be fnllydeseribed in thef'ollowing specification, and represented in the aeeomlmnying drawings, ot' which- Figure 1 is a top view, Fig. 2 a side elevation, and Fig. 3 allongitndinal section, of it.
This invention consists of a plate or piece of metal, a, and two eyelets, b I), stamped or formed together f'rom such plate, such eyelets extending' 'from the brace at or near its two extremities, the same being as shown in the drawings. In fact the whole may be said to be tiwo eyelets and a conneeting-luace, struck or formed in connection from one sheet or plate of metal.
I am aware that a brace and two separate eyelets have been used at the lower part of the laeingopening of a shoe, the eyelets being passed through holesmadein the brace. Therefore I do not; claim such. Neither do I claim an eyelet stamped from a plate of metal. Nor do I claim a brace made with mere points or prongs extending from it, as such di'ers from my brace in having no holes through it and its fastenings. In my brace such holes are for the reception of the lacing, whereby the brace is better held in place in the shoe.
I have made a new article ot' manufacture specially' adapted for lacing-openings, and whether to extend across or to be applied to either or both sides of one of sneh openings.
What I claim as my invention, and as anew article ofmanufacture, for pnrposesas set forth, is-
rPhe eyelets and brace struck or stamped together or in connection from one piece of metal.
S. J. SHAW.
