To all whom it may cont/'crm Be it known that I, EDGAR W. SULLIVAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at El Reno, in the county of Canadian and Territory of Oklahoma, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dish-Washers; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to dish-washers; and the object is to improve and simplify the construction, increase the eiiiciency, and provide. a practical edective machine Of this character. f I

To these ends the invention consists in the described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.

The accompanying drawings show my invention-in the best form now known to me; but many changes in the details might be made without departing from the spirit of my invention, as set forth in the claim at the end The same reference characters indicate the same parts of the invention.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved dish-washer. Fig. 2 is a top plan view. Fig, 3V is a longitudinal section on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a transverse section on the line 4 4 of Fig. 2.

1 denotes a suitable tank divided into three compartments 2, 3,- and 4 by the transverse partitions 5 and 6,. the compartment 4 being provided with a hinged cover 7.

8 denotes an inclined drain-shelf, the lower end of which is arranged to discharge the drip-water into the compartment 2, the Whole being supported on the legs 9 9.

10 10 denote the valved waste-pipes, leading from the compartments 2 and 3 and connected at their lower ends with a common discharge-pipe 12. The inner ends of these waste pipes are provided with the usual strainers for retaining the solid particles of refuse matter and preventing the Waste-pipe from clogging.

13 represents the hot-water-inlet pipe, leading from afwater-back or other source of supply, and 14 denotes the outlet or return pipe, both of which are arranged in the same horizontal `plane parallel with each other and extend entirely through the compartments 2 and 3 a short distance above the bottom. of the tank,and their inner ends terminate in the compartment 4.Y

15 denotes a branch pipe connecting the inlet and outlet pipes 13 14 in the compartment 3, and when these pipes are connected to the. water-back of a stove or range the water rises in the compartment 4 to the level of the water in the said water-back, and 16 denotes a supply-cock for obtaining a supply of hot water from the compartment 4 for culinary purposes.. above the level of the inlet and outlet pipes, as shown in Fig. 4, so as to form a bridge or -rocker for the basket to rest and rock upon when in use. If the hot-water inlet and outf let pipes are connected to a boiler, then blind caps 17 (one of which is shown in Fig. 3) are used to close the. inner end of the pipes 13 14 and the circulation is maintained through the branch pipe 1,5.

18 denotes the foraminous or reticulated baskets provided with the usual grip-handles, as shown,and they are somewhat smaller than the compartments 2 3 and are adapted to rest upon the pipes 13 14, so as to permit of a free circulation of the water around and through them.

The operation is as follows: The compartments are filled with water, which is maintained at a uniform temperature by the circulation of the hot water in the pipes 13 14 15. The basket is filled with the dishes and placed in the compartment 3, so as to rest upon the raised branch pipe 15, and the basket is then rocked to and fro to cause a free circulation of the heated water about the dishes, and they are then transferred to the compartment 2 for a rinsing, after which the basket and its contents are placed on the shelf S to drain.
