CRIB ATTACHMENT FOR BEDS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 23, 1906.
Application filed August 24, 1905. Serial No. 275,560.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM R. CLARK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chillicothe, in the county of Ross and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Crib Attachments for Beds, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has relation to crib attachments for beds; and it consists in the novel construction and arrangement of its parts, as hereinafter shown and described.
The object of the invention is to provide a crib attachment which is adapted to be secured or attached to the side rail of a bedstead and which may be readily detached therefrom and collapsed or folded, so as to take up but little room or space. f;;,The invention consists primarily of a pair of arms provided with clamps, which are adapted to receive the side rail of the bedstead. Said arms are made in sections, which are hinged together. Upon the outer ends of said arms are pivotally attached posts or uprights, which are composed of telescoping sections, and connecting said uprights are hori zontal rails, which are also composed of telescoping sections. The said arms are connected together by canvas or other strips made of flexible material, and upon the'said strips the mattress or a pillow is adapted to be placed. Guy-chains are attached at their'u'pper ends to the said uprights and at their lower ends to said arms.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the crib attachment. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the outer portion of the crib attachment.
The crib attachment consists of the arms 1 1. The said arms are each made in two sections, Which are hinged together, as at 2. The inner ends of the inner sections of the said arms are provided with the angular extensions 3, and upon the under sides of the said sections are located the sliding blocks 4, which are held in place by the bolt and nut 5. The said extensions 3, blocks 4, and bolts and nuts 5 constitute clamps which are adapted to receive and grip the side rail of a bedstead in a manner as indicated in Fig. 1.
The uprights 6 are pivoted to the outer ends of the outer sections of the arms 1. Said uprights are made of sections which are adapted to telescope or slide each within the next lowest section, so that when collapsed all are in the lower sections. The upper ends of the guy-chains 7 are attached to the upper sections of the uprights 6, and the lower ends of the said chains are attached at or near the inner ends of the inner sections of the arms 1. The flexible strips of canvas or other suitable material are attached at their ends to the arms 1 1. The said strips are adapted to support a mattress or pillow, upon which an infant may rest. The horizontal rails 9 9 connect the uprights 6 6 together. The said rails 9 9 are also made in sections, the middle ones, 10, of which are of the greatest diameter and the remaining sections, those which extend out on each side of the sections 10, gradually decrease in diameter and are adapted to telescope or slide Within each other, and all finally slip within the middle sections 10. The parts of the crib attachment when in use and applied to a bedstead are in the positions as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings. When not inuse and folded up, the inner sections of the arms 1 are swung up on the hinges 2 and laid over on the outer sections of the said arms. The arms thus folded are then turned under the rails 9 9. The sections of the uprights 6 6 are then telescoped or slipped within each other and the sections of the rails '9 9 are telescoped or slipped within each other. Thus the rigid parts of the attachment are collapsed. The strips 8 and'the chains 7 may then be wound in any suitable manner about the folded parts.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A crib attachment for beds consisting of arms provided with clamps adapted to grip the frame of the bed, collapsible uprights located upon said arms, collapsible rails connecting said uprights and flexible strips connecting said arms together.
2. A crib attachment for beds consisting of arms provided with clamps adapted to grip the frame of the bed, collapsible uprights pivoted upon said arms, collapsible rails connecting said uprights and flexible strips connecting said arms together.
3. A crib attachment for beds consisting of arms composed of sections hinged together and provided with clamps adapted to grip the frame of the bed, collapsible uprights located upon said arms, collapsible rails con- I rails adapted to telescope into the middle sec- 10 necting said uprights and flexible strips contions thereof, and flexible strips connecting necting said arms together. said arms together.
