Description

PATENTED DEC. '25, 19061 G. SGHEMAN. DISPLAY CABINET.
APPLICATION FILED JUNE 15. 1905.
2 SHEETS-SHEET 1.
' GEORGE SOHEMAN, OF WINTHROP, MINNESOTA.
DISPLAY-CABINET.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 25, 1906.
Application filed June 15,1905. Serial No. 265,362.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE SCHEMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at WVinthrop, in the county of Sibley and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Display-Cabinets and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention has relation to improvements in display or exhibiting cabinets; and it consists in the construction and arrange ment of parts, as will be hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of the cabinet. Fig. 2- is a side elevation of the same with the door partly broken away. Fig. 3 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view, and Fig. 4 is a horizontal sectional view taken through the cabinet.
Referring to the drawings by numerals, 1 designates a casing constructed in rectangular form and revolubly mounted on a base 2 by means of a pivot-pin 3, which extends vertically upward through the bottom of the cabinet. On two of the opposite sides of the cabinet I provide partitions 3, both of which extend horizontally across said sides and are secured, respectively, to the top and bottom of the casing. On the two other opposite sides of the casing are hinged transparent doors 5, and between the doors and the partitions 18 formed a display-compartment 5. The partitions 3 are formed with spaced steps 3 with the riser portions 3" inclined outwardly and upwardly and with recesses or grooves 3 at the juncture of the steps and their risers.
Bearing by their lower edges in the grooves 3 are plates 6, preferably of sheet metal and extending over the next riser portion above and also beyond the next step above, whereby the series of upwardly and outwardly inclined pockets or receptacles 7 are produced transversely of the partitions. Each of the plates thus forms a rear wall of one of the pockets and at its upper edge stops short of the upper edge of the plate next above, whereby spaces are left for the insertion of the goods to be displayed, the upper portions of the goods projecting above the upper edges of the plates, as represented.
Each of the plates is folded over at its upper edge, as at 4, to form a lateral projection thereon and extending over the pocket next below and providing a stop at the upper end of each pocket to assist in retaining the goods in position. The goods are disposed in the pockets 7 and resting upon the step 3 are prevented from displacement upwardly by the presence of the projections 4, as will be obvious. The inner faces of the doors 5 are relatively close to the outer faces of the lateral projections 4, so that when the doors are closed the goods are retained in position in their respective pockets and prevented from upward movement. The upper portion of the device which carries the pocket 7 being rotatatively disposed and the ockets being inclined outwardly and upwardly, any rapid rotation to the casing carrying the goods would have a tendency to cause the goods in the pockets to move upwardly, and when this occurs the projections 4 limit such upward movement and effectually prevents displacement of the goods. By this arrangement the cabinet may be moved from place to place or shaken about or even overturned without danger of displacing the goods. This is an important advantage of the invention and adds materially to its efficiency and utility.
On the rear faces of the partitions I provide longitudinal grooves 4 arranged one above the other at suitable distances apart, and in these grooves are slidably mounted shelveslO, which are constructed of any suitable material, on which may be displayed goods of various kinds, the spaces between the shelves being divided by a partition 12.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A casing having openings in its side walls with closures, partitions extending transversely within said casing adjacent to said openings, said partitions having horizontal step and upwardly-inclined riser portions formed thereon and arranged one above the other, longitudinal channels formed between the intersections of the riser and step portions, metallic plates having one of their longitudinal edges detachably seated in said In testimony whereof I have hereunto set channels and contacting against the riser my hand in presence of two subscribing Witportions and extending above the same and nesses.
