Speccation of Letters Patent.
yPatented Jan. s, 1907.
Application filed September 13, 1905. Serial No. 278.342.
4 CAMP and LEAMoN H. J UnsoN, citizens of the land 11.
United States, residing at Los Angeles, inv
the county of Los Angeles and` State-of California, have invented new' and useful Improvements in Key-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates tomeans for holding doors securely in osition when suchv doors have been locked om one side and thereby prevent the keys from being turned to operate the lock from the opposite side of the doors by any unlawful means.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the key-fasteners in place on a portion of the door. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the key-fastener. Fig. 3 is a section on line 3` 3 of Fig. 2.
In the drawings, 5 represents a ortion of a door having the usual mortiseock 6 in place therein. Secured to the inside of the door and at one side of the keyhole is a `threaded stud 7, the outer end of which is bent at right angles and terminates in a head 8.` Loosely mounted on the bent outer end of this stud is a key-fastener 9, which is bent to form an u per and lower member 10 Pivotally attached to the upper member 10 of the fastener, as at 12,- is a swinging catchlS, whichis adapted to be thrown into ory out of engagement with a shoulder 14 on the upwardly-turned springcatch 15 formed on the outer end of the lower member 11. vThe lower member is provided with a key-engaging pin 16, which is adapted to enter the a erture 17 in the key-head and prevent the grey from slipping on being pushed out of the fastener.
ave apertures 18 at their outer end, which engage the threaded stud 7.
The outerbent end of the stud may be Both members threaded to receive a nut, (not shown,) so
that the fastener may be put on or removed withoutremoving the stud from the door.
It will be seen that the device described is sim le in construction, has but few parts, easi y adjusted, and constitutes an effectual safeguard against unauthorized unlocking of the door.
Having described our invention,` what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The improved key-fastener provided with means for attachment to a door; a plate bent to form an upper and lower member loosely secured to said attaching means; a
hinged catch ivotally secured to said u per member, the ower member being turne upwardly at its outer end/to forma springcatch having a shoulder adapted to receive the swinging catch of the upper member; and a key-engaging pin secured to said lower member.`
2. In a device of the character herein described comprising a threaded stud bent at right angles at its outer end andhaving a head, adapted to be secured to a door a fastener loosely mounted on said stud, said fastener bent to form an upper and lower member, the u per member provided with a hinged cato adapted' to be pressed into engagement with a shoulder on the springL catch formed on the outer end of the lower member; a key-'engaging pin secured to said lower membe In witness that we claim the foregoing we have hereunto subscribed our names this EDMUND A'. STRAUsE,
G. E. HARPHAM.
