To all whom if may concern:
Be it known that I,'-NORVAL T. MORRIS, a to interfere with the outflow thereof.
citizen of the UnitedStates, residing at Marietta, in the county of Washington and State of (.)hio, have invented a new and useful Syringe-Nozzle, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to syringe-nozzles, and more particularly to one adapted for the treatment of diseases of the urethra.
The object of the invention is to provide a nozzle which shall in a simple, thoroughly practical, and novel manner secure proper application of the medicament to the affected part, whereby more rapid cures can be effected than with the ordinary nozzles of this character in common use.
With the above and other objects in view, as will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the various novel details of construction of a retrojector syringe-nozzle, as. will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a art of this specification, and in which like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts, Figure 1 is a view in erspective of one form of nozzle constructed in accordance with the present invention. Fig. 2'is a view in longitudinal section through the hozzle shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a view in longitudinal section, showing the manner in which the syringe operates when positioned within the urethra. Figs. 4, 5, and 6 are enlarged detail sectional views of slightly-modified forms of syringe-heads. Fig. 7 is an enlarged detail view of the head shown in Figs. 1-3.
Referring to the drawings and to Figs. 1, 2., 3, and 7 thereof, 1 designates the body or cannula of the s ringe-nozzle, having at one end a head 2 an at the other endaflanged or shouldered enlargement 3, by which the nozzle may be connected with a suitable conduit, such as a rubber pipe or the like. The body 1 is gradually tapered from the enlargement 3 to the head 2, thus to facilitate inser- 4 with a plurality tion in use. The head 2 is conoidal in shape and is provided at or adjacent to its shoulder of discharge-orifices 5, which are angularly disposed relatively to each other and communicate and aline with the conical end 6" of the duct 6 of the nozzle.
By forming the duct 6 with a conical end 6 and extending the rearwardly-inclined orifices 5 directly from said end the liquid is prevented from rebounding to such an exten i kas e 1 end 6' deflects the water rearwardlv andradially through the orifices with practically no diminution of force. Adjacent to the head 2 is a collar 7, which is provided with a plurality of orifices 8, which are disposed approximately parallel with the duct- 6, although it is not essential, as they may discharge at an angle thereto, the body of the nozzle adjacent to the collar being slightly reduced, as at 9, thus to guard against any interference with the rear discharge of the medicament through the orifices 7. duced portion 9 serves to produce a whirling action of the liquid discharged thereinto from the orifices 7. The head and shoulder, together with the neck portion 9, is made as a separate element and is secured to the small end of the nozzle in any preferred manner, as by a screw-threaded connection or by being brazed or soldered thereto.
In the form of embodiment of the invention shown in Fig. 4 instead of having the head provided with the collar 7 the same is provided with a bulbous shoulder or enlargement 10, provided with longitudinal orifices 1 1, the enlargement subserving the same function as the collar shown in Figs. 13-that is to say, it operates as a distender to prevent the walls of the urethra from closing around the head, and thus interfere with the discharge of the liquid from the orifices 5, and for purpose of brevity the said part will hereafter be referred to as the distender.

In each form of the invention it will be observed that the peripher of the distender is a true circle and that t 1e orifices thereof are all disposed some distance inward therefrom, thereby presenting a continuous an unbroken surface to engage the walls of the urethra, and thus positively prevent the In t e use of the device when the nozzle is positioned into the urethra the medicament will after passing out of the orifices 5 be roperly sprayed or discharged upon the a ected part, this being held away from the orifices by 5 means of the distender, and after the medicament has performed its function it will pass through the orifices in the distender, and thus to the rear of the affected part.
It will be noticed that in all forms of the :0 invention an annular depression 2 is formed in the nozzle between the head 2 and the collar 7. By providin this depression the liq uid is highly agitate or disturbed after being discharged from the orifices and'before pass- 15 ing outward throughithe contracted openings 8, and therefore the diseased parts are thorou hly cleaned.
