APPLICATION FILED Inn. 11, 1901.
UNITED sraa s ggrnnr OFFICE.
SYVER LOE, OF MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA.
LACE-FASTENER.
To all whom "it may concern:
Be it known that I, SYvER Lon, a citizen of the United States, residing at Minneapolis, in the county of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lace-Fasteners; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention has for its object to provide an improved lace fastener for shoes, gloves and other articles having separable flaps or parts that are connected by lacings or strings.
The invention consists of the novel devices and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and defined in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings which illustrate the inventioinlike characters indicate like parts throughout the several views.
Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating my improved fastener applied in worling position. Fig. 2 1s a front elevation of the fastener shown in Fig. 1, removed from the shoe flap. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the fastener shown in Fig. 2; and Fig. 4 is a section taken on the line :r" .r of Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawings, Fig. 1 shows the flaps 1 of a ladys shoe having the usual eyelets 2. The body 3 of the fastener is shown as of (llSiVllIG form and is provided with projecting barbs 4 that are adapted to be passed through the shoe flaps and to be clenched on the inner sides thereof to securely hold the fastener in worl ing position. The intermediate portion. of the body 3 is provided with a clamping bar 5 that extends diametrically thereof and is pressed laterally from said body portion with its ends left integral therewith, so that both ends of the said bar are rigidly secured to the said body portion. One end portion of this clamping bar 5 extends outward at a slight angle with respect Specification of Letters Patent.

to the face of said body, and the other end portion thereof is bulged outward, as shown at 5*, to form an eye through which the lacing or string may be freely passed for endwise movement. dished or curved slightly, as best shown in Fig. 4, so as to prevent cutting of the lacing or string which is clamped thereby against the adjacent edges of the slot formed in the body 3 by movement therefrom of the said bar. A clamping bar forn'ied as described is very strong and affords a combined eye and string clamping device, and while especially adapted for application to ladies shoes may, i'ievertheless, be used in any other place where found desirable.
hat I claim is: I
1. A lace fastener comprising a metallic body portion having a laterally projecting clamping bar which is attached thereto at both ends and is formed with a bulged por tion adapted to permit the endwise movement of the lace, the other portion of which clamping bar diverges slightly from said body portion and is arranged to cooperate therewith to clamp and hold the lace, substantially as described.
2. A lace fastener comprising a thin metal body portion 3 having barbs 4 and having cut and pressed laterally therefrom the clamping bar 5, which bar is left attached at said body portion at both ends and is provided with a bulged portion 5 that is curved or dished in cross section, and the other portion of which clamping bar diverges slightly from said body portion 3 and is arranged to cor'iperate therewith to clamp and hold the lace, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
SYVER LOE.
