Description
H. M. WEAVER.
I LAVATORY.
APPLICATION IILED MAY 4. 1907.
906,592. Patented Dec. 15, 1908.
i Q 11v VEN TOR HENRY M. WEAVER, OF MANSFIELD, OHIO.
LAVA'IORY.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed May 4, 1907.
Patented Dec. 15, 1908.
Serial No. 371,811.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY M. \Vnavnu, of Mansfield, in the county of Ilichland and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lavatories; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in lavatories and more particularly to a combined water supply and overflow device for attachment to bath tubs, one object of the invention being to so construct such a combined device that it can be adapted to the opening or overflow outlet with which all tubs are provided.
A further object is to provide a fixture of the character mentioned, which shall be of simple construction, attractive in appearance and which shall also be durable.
A further object is to so construct the device that it can be applied to any tub and so that it can be easily rcpt in order as well as clean and sanitary.
A further object is to combine in a single casting an inlet for water to the tub and an overflow outlet for water from the tub.
With these objects in view the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts as hereinafter set forth and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a sectional view (partly in elevation and partly broken away) showing a portion of a bath tub and the application of my im provements thereto, and Fig. 2 is a face view illustrating my improvements.
1 represents a bath tub having an opening 2, the position of which is that usually occupied for the overflow from the tub, and 3 represents an overflow waste pipe provided with a coupling 4.
A hollow head or casting 5 is threaded at one end and enters the coupling 4 so as to discharge through the latter into the pipe 3. The other end of the hollow head or cast ing 5 is made with a flange 6 to enter the opening 2 in the tub, and with an annular flange 7 which bears against the face of the end wall of the tub.
The head or casting 5 is formed in its lower portion with a chamber 8, the walls of which project through the opening 2 of the tub and terminate in a discharge nozzle 9. Pipes 10, 11, communicate with the chamber 8 for conveying hot and cold water thereto and suitable valves 12, 13, are provided for controlling the supply of water to said chamber.
A. cap or hood 1&- is located within the tub over the opening 2 and provided in its lower portion with a slot or opening 15 directly under the outlet nozzle of the chamber 8. The cap or hood 14 is also provided with a series of slots or openings 16, through which the overflow water from the tub will pass and enter the head or casting 5 through the opening 2 in the tub, such overflow water finding its way from said head or casting to the waste pipe 8, as before explained. The cap or hood 14 is held in place by means of a screw 17 passing freely through a hole in the center of said hood and screwed to a lug 18 within the head or casting 5 over the chamber 8.
With a construction such as above described simple and eflicient means are provided whereby the water inlet and overflow outlet for a bath tub are combined in a single casting of neat and attractive appearance; which will occupy very little space and which can be readily attached at the overflow outlet of any bath tub. It will also be seen that the device comprises only two parts held together and secured to the tub by means of a single screw, thus permitting ready access to its interior for cleaning purposes.
Various slight changes might be made in the details of construction of my invention without departing from the spirit thereof or limiting its scope and hence I do not desire to be restricted to the precise constructive details herein set forth.
Having fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is,
1. The combination with a lavatory having an overflow outlet, of a combined inlet and overflow device secured to the lavatory coincident with the overflow outlet thereof, the inlet portion of said device projecting through the overflow outlet of the lavatory, and a perforated hood inclosing the outlet end of said inlet portion of the device.
2. The combination with a lavatory having an overflow outlet, of a combined inlet and overflow device disposed in line with the overflow outlet of the lavatory and having a nozzle projecting through said overflow outlet and curved downwardly and aimed provided with perforations and inclosing said nozzle.
3. The combination with a lavatory having an overflow outlet, of a casting having two chambers, one of said chambers adapted to receive overflow from the lavatory and the other of said chambers terminating in a nozzle to discharge water into the lavatory, and a perforated hood covering the overflow outlet of the lavatory, inclosing the outlet end of the water inlet chamber and secured to said casting.
at. A combined inlet and overflow device adapted for attachment at the overflow outlet of a lavatory, said device comprising a casting having two chambers, one of said chambers terminating in a nozzle, a perforated cap to cover the open ends of both chambers and also adapted to cover the overflow outlet of the lavatory and a bolt for se curing said hood to said casting.
5. The combination with a lavatory having an overflow outlet, of a casting having two chambers, one of said chambers having its wall projecting through the overflow outlet opening of the lavatory and terminating in a nozzle, means for conducting water to said last mentioned chamber, a hood located within the lavatory over the overflow outlet thereof and provided with openings for the passage of water to and from the tub, a lug in the casting and a screw passing through the hood and said lug.
In testimony whereof, I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
