PUZZLE.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, WILLIAM Duoamn TAYLOR, a citizen of the United States, and residing at WVilliams Brid e, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Puzzles, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention rela es to puzzles, game devices and other devices of this class, and the object thereof is to provide an improved puzzle, the solution of which is ditlicult but may be accomplished by the exercise of care and skill in the manipulation of the device.

The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of I which the accent panying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Figure 1 is a plan view of my improved puzzle; Fig. 2 is a section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.-

In the practice of my invention, shown in the drawing, I provide a box a which is preferably oblong and rectangular in form and provided with a glass or other transparent cover (F. The box ais provided with a plurality of transverse partitions b which, in the construction shown, are four in number and which divide said box into five transverse chambers c, (I, e, f and 5 Each of the partitions I) is provided with a hole 0, and these holes are arranged in the transverse middle of said partitions and are also preferably arranged in a staggered position, the hole in one partition not being in the same vertical line with the hole in the partitions adjacent thereto.

The back walls of the chambers 0, (Z, f and g are differently colored, the colors being preferably red, white, blue and black, and the back of the central chamber 0 is preferably provided with the words Start with balls here. I also employ a plurality of spherical balls or bodies h which equal in number the chambers c, (Z, and g and which are colored to correspond with the back walls of said chambers. My invention is not limited to the number of the chambers 0, (Z, c, f and g, as any desired number of chambers and any preferred number of balls 7i may be employed, and the coloring of the backs of the chambers 0, (Z, c, and y and the corresponding coloring of the balls is not an essential feature, and various changes in and modifications of these features of the construction may be mate, within the scope of the appended claim, without departing from the spirit of my invention or sacrificing its advantages, and the back walls of the chambers c, (7, c, j and 9 may be designated in any desired manner as may also the balls h, and the said back walls of the said chambers may all be of the same color as may also the balls lb, and the box a. instead of being rectangular in form may be of any other preferred shape.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

A puzzle comprising a box having a transparent cover and a plurality of complete transverse partitions forming transverse chambers, each of said partitions being provided centrally of the width thereof with a hole or aperture and a plurality of balls placed in said box, said balls being adapted to pass through the holes or apertures in said partition, said chambers and said balls being correspondingly designated.
