LAMP-BURNER.

Be it known that we, AncnIsALn IV. PA'ULL and Joint A. IVIGGINNIS, both of .Vheeling, Ohio county, IV est Virginia,have invented a new and useful Improvement in Lamp-Burners, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a side 'iew, partly broken away, of a lamp burner embodying our invention; and Fig. 2 a bot-tom plan view of the same, also partly broken away.

Our invention has relation to the class of lamp burners, and is designed to provide a novel construct-ion of the burner whereby a lighter gage of material may be used and a stronger and cheaper burner made; also to provide novel means for securing the chimney guides to the burner.

The precise nature of our invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings, in which we have shown the preferred form thereof, and which will now be described, it being premised, however, that various changes may be made in the details of construction and arrangement of the parts without departing from the spirit and scope of our invention.

In these drawings, the numeral 2 designates the base of the burner, which may be, in general, of the usual construction, with the threaded shank 3.

4 designates the chimney rest or support, which is supported by the radial arms 5, which extend upwardly and outwardly from the upper portion of the base 2, and which are provided at their upper ends with the lips (3, which extend through slots or openings in the chimney rest, and are then bent over against the upper surface thereof. The chimney rest or support is formed of a thin sheet of metal, preferably of brass, and its outer circumferential edge is turned inwardly and under to form the unclosed bead 7, this head acting to greatly stiffen and strengthen the construction and enabling the employment of a much thinner gage of metal.

8 designates the usual wick tube, which extends upwardly through the base and through the usual dome 9, said tube being secured in any usual or suitable manner.

11 designates the chimney guides. Each of these guides is formed of a single piece of wire doubled upon itself to form curved spring guiding loops, the free end portions of the wire extending around and underneath the beaded outer edge of the chimney rest and passing through bends 12 formed by the lips (5 before described. The free end portions of the wires after passing through the bends 12 are brought outwardly and downwardly through the arms 5, and are thence carried down outside of the base 2, with their extreme ends extending through perforations in the wall of the base to the inside of the same, as clearly shown in the broken-away portion of Fig. A. This con stitutes an extremely simple and secure manner of securing the guides, which are in this manner supported independently of the chimney rest and are carried by the chimney base.

The construction of the burner as a whole is extremely simple, and it can be manufactured at a low cost.

What we claim is 1. In a lamp burner, a base member having radial upwardly and outwardly extending arms formed with perforations therethrough, and a plurality of chimney guides formed each of a single piece of wire bent upon itself and having its end portions passed through the perforations in the arms and engaging the base of the burner below said arms; substantially as described.

2. In a lamp burner, a base member having a plurality of upwardly and mltwardly extending arms, a chimney rest supported by the said arms, said arms having lips at. their extremities engaging perforations in the chimney rest, and chinmey guides formed of looped pieces of wire passing through bends formed by the said lips at the under side of the chimney rest and having their free end portions extending throiigh perforations in the said arms, and thence inwardly into the base member; substantially as described.
