COMBINATION-RECEPTAGLE To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FRANK H. Si-I'Aw, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Ironton, in the county of Lawrence and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Combination-Receptacles, of which the following is a specification.

The invention relates to a combination receptacle, being particularly directed to a single receptacle which will effectively serve both as a commode and refuse pail.

The main object of the present invention is the provision of a receptacle body so con structed as to readily and conveniently receive a commode section, said section being in turn adapted to receive a cover, the particular relative constructions of the body and commode section adapting either of these parts for the independent reception of the cover, whereby the receptacle may be arranged to provide a commode having a removable cover or, through the removal of the commode section, be converted into an ordinary refuse receptacle having a removable cover.

The invention will be described in the following specification, reference being had particularly to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a view in elevation partly in section illustrating my improved receptacle. Fig. 2 is a vertical central sectional view of the commode section. Fig. 3 is a plan of the same.

Referring particularly to the drawings, my improved receptacle comprises a body 1, preferably of ordinary pail form having a flaring bottom or stand 2 and pail 3. The body is preferably constructed in any usual or preferred manner from metal, as sheet metal, and is formed at the upper end with What will be hereinafter termed the cover receiving flange t. The flange a, which is preferably of substantial height extends in parallel relation to the longitudinal central line of the body, that is at right angles to the base line, the body proper being preferably of the flaring type usual in receptacles of this character, though it is understood that other forms may be used if desired. At the juncture of the flange t and the upper edge of the body proper the material of the body is bent laterally to provide an outwardly projecting annular body 5, to provide a rest and support for the commode section and Specification of Letters Patent.

The commode section comprises an annular flange or band 6 closed at the upper end by a wall 7. The band 6 is divided into distinct upper and lower flanges 8 and 9, which are disposed respectively in offset parallel planes by appropriate bending of the material intermediate the proximate edges of the flanges, as at 10, the upper edge of the flange 8 being connected directly to the wall 7, while the lower edge of the flange 9 is rolled at 11 to afford the usual hearing.

The relative arrangements of the flanges S and 9 form a material part of the present invention, the flange 9 being of such interior diameter as to snugly receive therein the cover flange 4.- of the body, while the flange S is so oflset relative to the flange 9 that when said commode section is in place the flange 8 projects in exact vertical alinement with the flange l of the body. In other words the flange 8 is coextensive in interior and exterior diameter with the similar diameters of the flange 4, while the flange 9 is of such interior diameter as to snugly fit over the flange l. The wall 7 of the commode section is formed with an opening 12, which is practically of equal diameter throughout its length except at the ends where it is rounded, as shown. The opening 12 is thus of materially elongated shape, having the side walls extended in parallel relation and the end walls rounded. The opening is of greater length and width, and by this particular opening I adapt the section for the use of children as well as adults. The side edges or the material of the wall '7 adjacent the sides of the opening 12 is downwardly inclined. for the greater portion of its length, thus conveniently formin said edges for the use intended.

The cover section 13 is of any usual or preferred type, comprising an upper Wall 14L centrally provided with a knob 15 or other convenient handhold and having a depending flange 16 terminally rolled at 17, as shown. The interior diameter of the flange is ofsuch size as to snugly fit over the flange 4t. of the body, being, therefore, as will be plain from the above description also adapted for conveniently fitting over the flange 8 of the commode section.

From the above description it will be noted that both the commode section and cover section are adapted for frictional engagement with the body 1, that the cover section is equally adapted for frictional engagement as a cover for the commode section. It will, therefore, be obvious that the receptacle is adapted for convenient use as a commode or a refuse receptacle, it being understood that in the latter use the commode section is removed and the cover applied directly to the flange 4 of the body. The cover section and commode section are readily and conveniently applied or removed, so that the receptacle may be readily adapted for either use or the interfering parts may be quickly removed when it is desired to clean the interior of the body.

Having thus described the invention What is claimed as new, is

A commode section having an opening of materially greater length than width, the sidewalls oi the opening extending in practically parallel relation and the end walls thereof being curved, the material of the section inclining downwardly from a point beyond said side edges of the opening to the edges, said downward inclination being of maximum extent at the transverse central line of the opening and gradually decreasing therefrom toward the end edges of the opening, said end edges being throughouttheir length in the normal plane of the section.
