Description
W. G. GREEN.
TRAY ATTAUHING DEVICE. APPLICATION FILED F B B.8, 1910.
Patented June 21,1910.
UNITE 'WARREN C. GREEN, OF CONCORDIA, KANSAS.
TRAY-ATTACHING DEVICE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WARREN G. GREEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Concordia, in the county of Cloud and State of Kansas, have invented a new and useful Tray-Attaching Device, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to devices for holding plates upon tables, the trays of high chairs and the like whereby the same cannot be easily pushed off of the supporting structure. The device is thus rendered particularly desirable for use by children.
Another object of the invention is to provide a holder which constitutes means for preventing the food from being pushed over the edge of the plate.
A still furtherobject is to provide a device of this character which is simple in construction, cheap to manufacture, and which can be readily applied to a supporting structure and to a plate located thereon.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings the preferred form of the invention has been shown.
In said drawings :--Figure 1 is a perspective View of the holder, the same being shown in engagement with a plate a portion of which is broken away. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal section through the holder and the structure engaged thereby, a plate being shown in position within the holder, said plate being in elevation.
Referring to the figures by characters of reference 4, designates a U-clamp having two fixed jaws, there being a set screw 3 within the lower jaw 2 whereby the said clamp may be securely attached to a table, tray or other structure. A bolt 6 is extended through an arm 1 projecting upwardly from the clamp, and engages an eye or loop 7 from which extend oppositely disposed bowed spring arms 8, the terminal of each arm being shaped to form an inwardly extending hook 9. A nut 10 is preferably mounted on the bolt 6 and is adapted to clamp the eye or loop 7 against the arm 1 so as to hold the arms 8 against displacement relative to said arm 1.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed February 8, 1910.
Patented June 21, 1910.
Serial No. 542,696.
In using the device herein described the clamp 4 is placed upon the edge portion of a table, shelf or the like and the set screw 3 is then adjusted upward against the lower surface of said structure so as to tightly clamp it. The plate A or other article to be held is then placed between the arms 8 and against the loop or eye 7 after which the hooks 9 are permitted to spring into engagement with the periphery of the plate as clearly shown in Fig. 1. It will be apparent therefore that the bowed arms 8 will rest upon the upper surface of the plate close to the margin thereof and thus serve as a flange to prevent the food from being pushed ofi of the plate. Moreover the arms and the hooked terminals thereof will, obviously, prevent the plate from being pushed out of position, this being due to the fact that the edge of the plate is engaged at three points by the eye or loop 7 and the hooks 9 respectively and extends under the bowed portions of the arms.
By utilizing spring arms 8, it will be apparent that the holder can be adjusted to engage and hold plates of different diameters.
Various changes can of course be made in the construction and arrangement of the parts without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention as defined in the appended claim.
What is claimed is A device of the class described including a support engaging clamp, an upstanding arm thereon, an eye detachably connected to the arm, oppositely extending bowed spring arms extending from the eye and having terminal plate engaging hooks, said arms constituting means for clamping the plate against the eye and for retaining food upon the plate, said arms bearing throughout their length upon the marginal portion of the plate.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto aflixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
WARREN C. GREEN.
