To all whom it may concern.'

Be it known that I, HENRY'B. a citizen of the United States, residing at Eldorado, in the county of Saline and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Insoles for Shoes;

following to be a full,

clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to improvements in insoles for shoes.

The object of the invention is to provide a metallic insole of suitable *sizev and shape and which may be arranged in the shoe in the process of manufacturing the same or which may be applied to shoes already made, whereby the toes are prevented from sinking or bedding into the bottom or 'sole of the shoe, thus preventing cramping and sweating of the foot and the consequent formation of corns, bunions and the like, and

by the use of which the shoes are caused to* retain their shape and wear longer.

With the foregoing and otherlobjects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arran ement of parts as will be more fully descri d and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a horizontal sectional View through the lower portion of a shoe showing my improved insoleapplied thereto; Fig. 2 is a detail longitudinal section on the hne 2 2 of Fig. l; Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of the insole removed from the shoe; Figs. 4; and 5 are horizontal sectional views of shoes showing modified forms of the insole.

My improved insoles 1 are formed from sheet metal cut into the desired shape and size to fit within the shoes to which they are to be applied. The insoles are secured to the outer soles of the shoes by nails or other suitable fastening devices 2 and may be applied to the shoe, while the same is bein manufactured or may4 be readily inserted and secured in shoes already made.

and arranged in accordance with my lnven-A tion, a firm support or rest is provided for the forward end and toes of the foot, thus preventing the falling in of the toe of the shoe upper or ythe depression of the leather sole to permit the bedding or sinking of the toes and ball of the foot into the sole, which condition causes cramping or sweating of the feet and the consequent disagreeable and injurious results hereinbefore mentioned. From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is v In combination with the sole and upper of a shoe, of a resilient metallic insole having an upstanding flan e extendin around the marginal e ge of the dy of the insole at the toe portion only thereof, to conform to the curvature of the toe portion of said upper, said insole having an incut on its rear edge and extending beneath the forward part of the foot only, and means for securing said insole, substantially as described.
