FOLDABLE PLUMBERS STAND FOR VISES.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ALBERT SMITH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Chio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Foldable Plumbers Stands for Vises, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to a foldable plumbers stand for vises7 all as hereinafter fully described and particularly 'pointed out in the claims. In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the stand unfolded and temporarily erected for use, and Fig. 2 is a perspective view partly in section of a union joint in the central brace.

The invention is designed to be used by plumbers for support-ing vises in unfinished or skeleton buildings.

It frequently occurs that plumbers have to do much of their work in buildings ben fore any floors have been laid and wherein it is diliicult to place or affix a vise in such a way that work can be advantageously done thereon, and hence I conceived the present invention which consists in a special vise support which affords a firm and convenient rest upon which the vise can be rigidly af- Xed and is held as securely for all practical purposes as on an ordinary work bench or other fixed support.

To these ends I have devised a two section skeleton frame comprising a top or working section or portion a, and a front upright section or portion c, and said sections are hinged together in t-he angles or corners thereof at d and adapted to fold into a close and compact form one upon the other and to open to a position at right angles to each other as seen in Fig. 1. A single two-part tubular brace preferably made of pipe sections connects the lower edge or base of secw tion c with the outer edge of section a, and is pivoted at both ends on said frame and provided with a union joint 4 at the middle so as to be separable and folded with the sections. The said frame or stand is preferably constructed of angle iron or steel, and both sections are narrowed at their meeting ends as indicated by the inward curvatures 2 and 3 respectively to afford convenient approach by the workman to the vise. said sections are at right angles to each other when open and the bottom of section c is wide enough to extend across at least two j oists J while the outer end of section a is wide enough to extend across two studdings S and is adapted to rest on pins 7 while the upright section is confined by pins 7 in said joists.

The upper horizontal section a is provided with two converging side pieces or wings 5 integral with or fixed rigidly upon the bars or sides of said section in any strong and sufficient way and in the narrowed portion thereof relatively near to section c. Said side pieces or wings incline inward toward each other bottom to top as well as converge toward each otherl at one end so that thereby the vise can be tightened therein and also be easily removed. A bolt hole 6 between said wings serves to further secure the visein place.

Vhen folded the two sub-frames or sections a and c match each other at all their edges but when erected as shown are braced by brace Z) and otherwise secured by the several pins 7 top and bottom.

IVhat I claim is:

1. A plumbers stand consisting of two skeleton sections having straight and relatively wide outer rest edges and narrowed inner edges hinged together, a jointed brace connecting said outer edges and transverse cross pieces in said narrowed portions of the frame converging to one side thereof and inwardly inclined.

2. A plumbers vise stand adapted to support vises in unfinished buildings and consisting of open work horizontal and vertical frames respectively hinged together and adapted to be folded and unfolded and an angularly disposed brace connecting the ALBERT SMITH.
