Description
A. MYERS.
v SHOULDER BRAGE. APPLICATION FILED PEB.16, 1910.
Patented July 4, 1911.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ADAM MYERS, or CLEVELAND, OHIO.
SHOULDER-BEACH].
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ADAM MYERS, a citizen of the United States, residing at No. 2431 Carnegie avenue, Cleveland, Ohio, in the county of Cuyaho-ga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shoulder-Braces; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in shoulder braces.
The object of this invention is to provide a shoulder brace which may be readily adjusted to meet the requirements, and one which is particularly adapted to afford an effectual brace for the shoulders and back without causing any discomfort to the wearer.
WVith the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be herein more fully described, particularly pointed out in the appended claim, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, which shows in perspective the construction of my improved brace.
Referring to the drawings, 1 denotes a belt adapted to be passed around the waist of the wearer and secured by means of a buckle 1. Detachably connected to the belt are two shoulder straps 2, 3, formed from flat strips of elastic, and each of which is connected to a triangular-shaped tab 3, having in its small tapered end a button-hole 4, so that it may be engaged with a button 5 on the belt 1. The buttons 5 are secured to the outer face of the belt in spaced relation on opposite sides of the center of the back or rear portion of the belt, as clearly shown in the drawing. Each of the triangular-shaped tabs 3 has attached to the inner side of its large upper portion one end of one of the elastic shoulder straps, and to the other or outer side portion of the upper end of each tab 3' is attached a metallic loop 6, the latter being fastened by a strip of fabric or other flexible material indicated at 6*. The elastic shoulder straps 2, 3, have their Specification or tea-as Patent.

free ends passed through the loops 6 so as to slide freely therein, and they are then doubled back upon the intermediate portions of said shoulder straps and adjustably connected thereto, as shown. This connection consists in attaching to the end of the shoulder strap a metallic loop 7 through which the intermediate portion of the strap passes and slides, and which carries a clamping lever 8, as clearly illustrated in the drawings. lVhen the lever 8 is loosened the loop 7 may be slid longitudinally on the intermediate or body portion of the shoulder strap to adjust the length of the latter.
In applying the brace, the belt is passed around the waist of the wearer with the ends thereof buckled together at the front and the shoulder straps extending diagonally across the back with the strap at the right hand side passing under the left hand arm of the wearer and vice versa.
The brace shown in the present drawings is particularly adapted for use by women. The braces, when manufactured or made up for the use of men, have the shoulder straps provided with suspender attachments which pass to the front and are attached to the trousers in the usual manner.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying draw ings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Vhat is claimed as new is The herein-described shoulder brace comprising a belt to pass around the waist, a buckle uniting the ends of the belt, buttons secured to the outer face of the belt in spaced relation on opposite sides of the center of the back of the belt, triangularshaped tabs having button-holes in their tapered lower ends to receive said buttons, loops secured by flexible strips to the outer portions of the large upper ends of said tabs, a pair of shoulder straps each consisting of a strip of elastic material having one end permanently attached to the inner portion of the top of one of said tabs, the other end of each shoulder strap being passed through one of said loops and folded over upon the intermediate portion of the strap,
loops attached to the free extremities of the In testimony whereof I have hereunto set two shoulder straps and slidably arranged my hand in presence of two subscribing witon the intermediate portions of said straps, nesses.
and clamping levers on the last-mentioned ADAM MYERS. 5 loops to adjustably fasten the free ends of Witnesses:
the straps to the intermediate portions of W. C. MoCULLoUGH,
the latter. E. J. HoPPLE.
